iran figures the u.s. won't do anything at this time about this because they think that the u.s. is bogged down.

eventually the u.s. will have to deal with them.

Beirut, Lebanon, Jun. 15 (UPI) -- Iran reportedly is readying troops to move into Iraq if U.S. troops pull out, leaving a security vacuum.

The Saudi daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, monitored in Beirut, reports Iran has massed four battalions at the border.

Al-Sharq al-Awsat quoted "reliable Iraqi sources" as saying, "Iran moved part of its regular military forces towards the Iraqi border in the southern sector at a time its military intelligence agents were operating inside Iraqi territory."

you sure about this?.....i`m pretty sure we sent more troops to iraq....and from what i understand,we are staying at the behest of the interim government post 06/30........

maybe i`m wrong....

i can`t imagine the can of worms an iranian incursion into iraq might open.......

i think this would be enough to even raise the ire of the crooked u.n......

i doubt iran rolls the dice......it would be crazy....

Iran has played games with the Iraqie border for last 25 years. They mass there they train there they have mock attacks there. Then they go back inland. Iran always felt Saddam was comeing for them. This is show and tell and thats it. Unless our V P gets it in his head to do something stupid. Don't count that out.

We're not going anywhere for the time being, but can there really be any doubt that when we *do* leave that Iran will either attempt to annex Iraq, or at very least have it as a satellite nation of their own? It wouldn't take much, without us around. The shiites have the majority in Iraq. Iraq has no national defense. It would be easy pickins and i'm sure Iran would love nothing more after Iraq attacked them in the 80's with our assistance.

Then what do we do, go back over there and try to occupy Iran and also Iraq (which will be Iran-lite by then) again? We can't even control a dinky country like Iraq. Do you really think we'd be able to impose our will on an Iran/Iraq combo?

But we deposed Saddam. Yay.

i would hope

i would hope

that the toothless, scandal ridden u.n. would step in as it did in kuwait.......

if iran invaded iraq, and the u.n. sat on it`s hands, then it might as well disband.....

and there`s the oil.....the recent deals we made with reticent countries like france would probably mean they`d feel a moral obligation this time(translation:it`d be in their economic interests)to make things right...

iran won`t try it.....there are to many bad things that can happen to them...

it would be much more prudent for them to just sit back,as they are now,and do their best to destabilize the new iraqi government from afar......

I agree, GW. Destabilization from afar will most likely be the initial tactic(shit, they're already employing that one), but I have little doubt that down the road, Iraq will basically be Iran's.

As far as the 'toothless' UN, they are only toothless when we choose to render them toothless. If they don't vote our way, or totally agree with us, then they are useless, but when we need something to justify an action of ours, all of a sudden we cite 'UN Resolutions.' What a joke.

I imagine that the UN won't be falling all over itself to help us with much of anything, and that includes any sort of destabilization of Iraq after we leave.

as we now are finding out,the u.n. is indeed a toothless, immoral, corrupt organization.....

and you are 100% right...they are absolutely toothless without us.....they are a sham without u.s. backing....

as far as us using the u.n. to further our own ends, what do you think the france`s ,germany`s and russia`s of the world were doing in shielding the hussein regime?.....

everybody does what they do to further their own interests....the rub is that they need us much more than we need them....

as far as u.n. assistance,we will be getting some of that assistance....now that the euros and the russians will be cut in on some of the lucrative oil deals that they lost when sadddam was toppled...

it`s business as usual...
....

Well of course they were doing the same as us. That's generally how countries make decisions. It's just that we get indignant when other nations look out for their own country. We're simply shocked and dismayed when that happens.

"everybody does what they do to further their own interests"

Exactly.

"the rub is that they need us much more than we need them"

Really?

Come on DJV. The Kurds would be squashed in about 2 days.

Now maybe if they came en masse from Turkey, there would be a fight, but if you're talking about the existing Kurds living in Iraq, then I wouldn't give them much of a chance to do anything.

Kosar Turkey believe it or not hates the kurds. But we are arming them very nicely. WE are training them and I believe soon that will come out in the open. I know as a group there numbers are small. But once in the mountains they can raise hell.

kosar, after Iran inevitably invaded Iraq, we will release & restore Saddam, arm him with brand new better weapons of mass destruction and carry on business as usual.;) You know how this works.

sometimes

sometimes

the options aren`t palatable.....in many instances it`s a case of"the lesser of two evils".....at that particular time....

sometimes you help afghani`s defeat the russians....and they turn around and sponsor terrorists that want to kill you....

sometimes, you literally save countries from tyranny and oppression.....time and again....then protect them for 45 years from communist expansion..........only to be be spat upon when you want to use their airspace to repay the murder of your citizens...and they deny you(see france).....

what happens 10,20,30 years down the road can`t always be forseen.....

unless you are omnipotent and/or psychic.... ....are you?...

Cheney has been released from Bethesda Naval Hospital after being fitted with a new WMD sensing pacemaker. The old pacemaker was deemed to be defective after no WMD were found in the aftermath of the Iraqi invason. The new version has additionally been upgraded with an AI wireless nueral network; cranial nodes being implanted in Don Rumsfeld, Carl Rove, and Scooter Libby.

Upon his release, Cheney reported to Bush that with his new "Spidey-Sense" powers he knows that Iran is WMD functional. Bush blurted out, "Let the prophecies be fulfilled... Bring it on!"

This has been cofirmed by a study published by the U.S. Army War College, asserting the U.S. ouster of Saddam Hussein has led to an acceleration of Iran's nuclear weapons program.

Terror war accelerated Iran's WMD

hated the un since i was 12. this middle east thing is eventually going to destroy the us financially. all of these countries hate each other and they will be fighting forever. this will never change. there may be a slight reprieve from time to time, but it will never end. the us does not have as many allies as it thinks. if there is ever a chink on the armour i fear for our once great country. many nations will work together for our demise because they hate us. the country that torn down and rebuilt the economies of the world will be alone in its darkest moment. i hate the fact i am a glass half empty approach here, but this is my opinion. hope i am wrong. i just do not see how this country can afford to give away money oversea, spend money on war there, become more socialistic at home every day, and continue to balance a budget. we need to acquire several oil fields to finance our continued efforts everywhere.

ps. someone should cancel the insurance on the UN, and dump the sob in the river. let the foreign ministers shove diplomatic immunity up there a$$es and float the F' home.:thefinger

GOD bless America.
