"the bunker"
TEHRAN, Iran — ""Iran announced its second major new missile test within days, saying Sunday it has successfully fired a high-speed torpedo capable of destroying huge warships and submarines.

The tests came during war games that Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards have been holding in the Gulf and the Arabian Sea since Friday at a time of increased tensions with the United States over Tehran’s nuclear program.

The Iranian-made torpedo — called the “Hoot,” or “whale” — has a speed of 223 miles per hour, said Gen. Ali Fadavi, deputy head of the Revolutionary Guards’ Navy.

That would make it about three or four times faster than a normal torpedo and as fast as the world’s known fastest, the Russian-made VA-111 Shkval, developed in 1995. It was not immediately known if the Hoot was based on the Shkval.""

everyday,"more stuff"....we`re heading for big trouble,my brothers....and iraq ain`t the half of it....

- iran pushing ahead with nuclear capability
- china rapidly modernizing armed forces
- russia quietly aiding america's enemies on multiple fronts while putin rolls back reforms

- mexico successfully deploys fifth column within america's borders

- hard left gaining momentum in france - aligned with islamists

- saudi arabia quietly pumping billions of petrodollars into global network of madrasses which turn out legions of America-hating fanatics

- over a billion muslims, 90% of which would love to see america destroyed

not to mention our own political gridlock..... big business selling out our own middle class.....
we are certainly the most powerful nation on earth "at present", but it is starting to look more and more like gulliver, tied down by a thousand smaller antagonists......

not good...not good at all

Good news it floats. But it seems it is not very accurate. Has to be fired out in plain site they have no sub's to handle it. Good by launching sites. When needed.

might be time to start drawing some lines...with the russians,at least....

might be time to start using all that aid we send that as a lever....

we`ve neutered ourselves...

I agree. Believe Bush made mistake when he said. I like this guy. I believe he has a good soul. Time to revisit those thoughts. While we worry about the French. The Russians are screwing us many places.

beginning to look like russia desperately wants to see how its toys stack up to ours, but it doesn't want to engage us directly to find out......

so, it might test them via proxy, and that proxy will be iran and some others....

bush looked into putin`s eyes?...and saw into his soul?....

if this is true, bush has some lousy instincts....

I think this is a real issue, and one that will become more important in the years ahead. Conservatives and right-wingers have been crowing about how good Bush has been for our country due to his hard-line stance and unwavering war-on-terror-democracy-or-nothing foreign policy. I submit that we have taken big time hits worldwide BECAUSE of this administration and what they have "done." Russia engaging in war games with China, the European Union formation to strengthen business and commerce, terror networks receiving financing from our "partners in the war on terror," fringe despots standing up against us publicly and taunting us, and the one main target of action who killed our citizens - Osama - putting out a tape every so often to embarrass us publicly and re-ignite support against our country. Not to mention the incredible leap in debt and our trade imbalance, and being so in debt to China and others.

I have sincere fears about where our country could be by the time I retire and my children have to deal with whatever the future has in store. And it is due in large part to the past 5 years and this administration. Say what you want, I honestly believe the US is much worse off and less safe than before 9-11 in the world picture.

Well, he did call them part of the Axis of Evil first time around. ....So now a guy with a good soul is leading 1/3 of the Axis of Evil. ....Not sure what that's supposed to mean.

I think Bush downplayed him because he knows he cannot hype the danger of Iran. We fell for that already. Perhaps Iran is in fact a much greater threat, but it hurts him politically to play that up right now - it only serves to emphasise the strategic error of Iraq.

I still think the war was an ingenious move. we've now got Iran surrounded by troops. Iraq..... Afghanistan.......
ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.......... soon the whole wooooooooooooorld....

Sorry, had a little "Neo-con Imperialists will rule the World" episode.

Anyhow, why do you think Iran's been so fidgety the last couple o' years, huh?

Iran's been fidgety for a few decades.

You make it sound as if we have Iran surrounded. We would need far more troops than current levels to have anything close to that effect.

You also make it sound as if they had an ally in Iraq before we invaded - like they were partners or something. Iran hated Iraq. After all, Iraq used biological weapons (ingredients provided by us) on them. It's not like Iran-Iraq was some freindly sieve-like border then....as opposed to what it seems to have become now.

We gotta be careful. A war with Iran would be 100 times tougher than one with Iraq. Plus, we are losing partners like crazy. It would be us against the Muslim world, with Russia and China just licking their chops, laughing at our folly, and biding their time.

We may actually have to fall back on diplomacy. I know it's a strange concept to chickenhawks and empty pride is sometimes at stake, but reality must eventually play a role in our international policies.

maybe its time we invest in welfare, and end the funding of military technology

i.e pay people to NOT work, instead of working for the country lol

love it when people say "We could have spent all that money on social programs" etc.

as if flushing money down a toilet and feeding pervasive, unhealthy behavior is better than spending it on our defense

Who's talking about war?
Geeze, talk about painting everything with a broad brush!

Diplomacy wth teeth is all that will work. Invading Iran at this point would be ridiculous.... unless there is some action to provoke it (Maybe Bush can set off a nuclear device and blame Iran, similar to what happened on season 2 of 24). :mj21:

And i have no clue where you came up with me saying that Iran and Iraq were ever allies. I can still emember the 80's, the Ayatollahs, Carter, Reagan, etc., etc.

Empty pride - chickenhawk? You forgot nascar fan.
Look who the fuqk's talking. Oops, I'm sorry, Howard Dean... uhhh... Sean Penn
