Notre Dame -3.5 over Texas ****
So much said already on this match up...Texas has some big problems on the OL...and for them to win they have to open up holes for D'onta and co...qb will be probably freshman,if not Swoopes..really think ND DL will force them to pass and stop the run...ND does not have a problem at qb..they have 2 guys that are good..rb's are good...wr's are unproven...Texas DL might have some problems with excellent tackle and gds of ND...ND defense has a new backfield...also unproven..but Texas passing offense is so bad..was 10th in the B-12 lyr....Strong is 0-11 at Texas when the other teams scores 1st...think Kelley is a better game coach with adjustments...ND won't do what it did last yr in South bend but still think they win by +10...think ND's OL and DL control the game...despite the Irish smoking weed,cheating on exams,DWI's and now handguns...the great thing about a Catholic school is everyone can go confess their sins and be forgiven by game time..except Redfield.....say 3 hail Marys and one Our father..... mea culpa......now do a post pattern ......on 3....break...

Hi Box...really like your writeups, very thoughtful. Here is a breakdown taken from another site, on the other side. If you see this, I'm sure a few of us would like your reaction. It takes the opposite view to yours.


The Fighting Irish crushed the Longhorns 38-3 outgaining them by 364 yards in last years opener, so John Q is all over ND. But this Texas group is one of the most improved teams in the country this year. With 15 returning starters, The Horns return their top 2 rushers,3 of their top 4 receivers and 7 of their top 9 tacklers on defense, but their new go fast offense under OC Sterlin Gilbert is a bad match-up for an overrated ND defense.Notre Dame only has 7 returning starters as they?ve lost 2 more this summer in TE Alize Jones and S Max Redfield making them one of the least experienced teams in the country. The Irish lose their leading rusher, 6 of their top 7 receivers and 7 of their top 8 tacklers on defense. Now all those inexperienced players have to travel to a hostile environment something the Irish haven't handled very well lately.The last 3 years in true road games, Notre Dame is 0-8 SU when favored by less than a TD or as an underdog. Charlie Strong?s job is on the line again this season and in two key games last year when his job was in jeopardy the Horn's upset Oklahoma 24-17 (+16.5) and upset Baylor 23-17 (+21.5). I like another upset tonight 2* Horns+4.5
