I have several Mormon friends and feel like I know a lot about it...more from reading about it than from them.

Not to be disrespectful, but its pretty easily disproved and really far-fetched...but at the same time all religions are pretty weird unless you are in the cult...and at that point, all OTHER religions are weird but yours makes perfect sense.

What I have found is that Mormons are some of the nicest people around...so as long as their religion doesn't step on any toes (which it probably does in the big picture)...I really don't care.

What I really find hilarious is when people start talking about how "weird" Scientology (or any other off the wall religion) is....I have to remind them that they believe a virgin had a baby who ended up dying and coming back to life. A man parted millions of gallons of water. Snakes talk. The list goes on and on but yet everybody else is weird.

This makes them smirk and "believe" even more....and makes a lot of them hope that I BURN IN FIRE FOR ETERNITY. And they are ok with that.

Honestly, anyone who believes that a fellow human being should BURN FOREVER....probably deserves it. I wouldn't wish burning for eternity on Hitler. Think about it. Burning Forever. Sick fucks.

i`m by no means an uber-religious person(don`t attend any churches or belong to any organizations)...but i take a much less cynical view..

i believe religion can be good or bad.....depends on who is playing the hand ... i see it as a social invention by people to get them together to do stuff,..... and make them feel connected....some people really need that in their lives...

so i try not to be too judgemental...

Interesting and good point TJ if Mormons didn't already believe in the virgin birth, the serpent talking in the Garden, and the birth and resurrection of Jesus. They do believe all of those things plus some other "different" things.

I do agree with your point on burning in hell and not wishing that on anybody. I also agree that I'm personally not going to cast judgement on anybody. I believe what I do, and if asked, I'm happy to share. I think saying something a person does is wrong is fine, but I don't add in the caveat that they are going to hell because of it; it's ok to judge actions as wrong, but I believe it is wrong to judge a person's eternal destination (I believe that's God's job). I have been told before by a Church of Christ member that people in my church were destined for hell because we use musical instruments.

I was kind of all over the place with my reply last night. I wasn't talking about just Mormons in all of it either but probably didn't communicate it very well. There is definitely a lot of good in religion....but overall its more about power and control (and money) and having people buy into fairy tales to the point that they will kill and die for.

Also, like I tried to post last night...I've been in a room with a muslim, catholic, mormon, protestant, jew, and hindu.....all at the same time and they started talking about how crazy Scientology is. That's when I started pointing out what they believe.....its all relative.

A virgin birth is "normal" while aliens projecting down is "crazy" (sorry, don't know much about Scientology).

Like I say, overall, Mormons are some of the nicest, best people I've ever been around.

Also, some of the smartest people I've been around....so its amazing to me that they can't see through their own religion.

The South Park episode really summed up what I had read about years ago. Joseph Smith finds golden plates and translates with a magic (seer?) stone. Then he is asked to do it again and can't....its similar but not the same. So they use both versions and the golden plates are nowhere to be found.

There is no archaeological findings to prove any of the made up civilization where Jesus supposedly lived in America.

So they (and so many) live their whole life based on scientific evidence for everything....medicine, electricity...just how the world operates....but at the same time won't even think about questioning this nonsense...I guess that would be a "lack of faith"

It boggles the mind. Religion starts out with...this is right...and then everything that comes up has to fit b/c we know, no matter what, this is right. And of course, everyone else is wrong. lol

Sorry for the long rants....lol

Mormons are great preppers
They have lots o'stuff stored
I am learning canning and preserving
From a neighbor who has a huge garden
And they have offered to help get my garden
