Illinois is not alone
Kentucky politicians ought not feel too smug about all the bad ink the Illinois state government is getting following the arrest of its Gov. Rod Blagojevich on federal allegations that he tried to make money by filling the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.
A year-old analysis of the U.S. Justice Department Public Integrity Section?s 2006 report to Congress ranked Kentucky behind only Louisiana and Mississippi for federally prosecuted public corruption. Illinois, which has watched governor after governor be accused, indicted and/or jailed, ranked 6th. The analysis was released in October 2007 by Corporate Crime Reporter, a weekly legal newsletter based in Washington. The analysis was published by Common Dreams NewsCenter, billed as a non-profit news service for the Progressive Community.
Russell Mokhiber, editor of Corporate Crime Reporter, calculated the ratings according to the number of federal public corruption convictions per 100,000 population from 1997 to 2006 for the 35 most populous states, 2 million or more population. The result:
Louisiana 7.67
Mississippi 6.66
Kentucky 5.18
Alabama 4.76
Ohio 4.69
Illinois 4.68
Pennsylvania 4.55
Florida 4.47
He can't refute the FACTS in the article.
By the way, the funny thing is that it is one the most efficient economically robust big city in the country. Every time I go back there there are new neighborhoods improved and looking like a million bucks. The Chicago area has a diverse economy that is built to withstand tough economic times. Daley will go down in my books as the greatest mayor of our generation. Regarding your question, buying off a jury would be no more likely in Chicago than Tuscalossa Alabama.
Dogs, so do you disagree with the article or not? Not sure what you talking about. If you think the article is wrong post something that disproves it?
I am sure you are right Skul. OBama is not a US citizen (the thousands of lawyers working for the GOP just are not as smart and informed as you are) and OBama, on his way to becoming the President of the United States, decided he would make some extra pocket money selling his old Senate seat. It all makes perfect sense. I am sure he sold all of his cabinet appointments and is currently taking bids on future Supreme Court nominations. Don't worry about the fact that there is absolutely not one shred of evidence of his involvement in this absurdity. The pure intellectual horsepower of the skul, hedge, and weasel thinktank is awesome to behold. TIA. FWIW. GFY.
Haven't had a recession in 30 years w/ unions and everything and still draws the best and brightest from all the Midwest's best Universities even with the highest tax rate in the nation. I'll never leave.
Bobby,
We just can't educate these guys. Everyone in Chicago and Illinois hates Blagos guts but the rest of the politicians get painted with the broad brush. Everyone there is a thug though so better watch out when you go out at night. Forgot to mention earlier that most people I know who visit call it ithe cleanest big city in the country too. Also, great place for single guys to get laid per your comment about the young grads moving in from all over the midwest. Oh well, we're all Thugs. :mj07:
Here, then, is our list of the 50 largest metro areas in America and how they compare. Higher total numbers mean a cleaner city.
