I do believe Syria is still next soon. I also believe Lebanon would have been hit even hard but for one thing. There are over 25000 Americans there. You want to see Americans get pissed fast and start to turn against Israel. Just get a few American killed by bombs not really meant for military targets. And on that thought. I find it surprising there was no plan in place to get Americans out. The one plan per state dept they felt would work is fly them out with military and commercial flights. But Israel must have forgot when they took out the run ways.

Israel went into Lebanese soil and captured 4 Hizzbulah soldiers in 2004. FINE, I CAN LIVE WITH THAT!! Why is it that when the roles are reversed its ok to bomb the shit out of civlians, children, elderly, AMERICANS AND EUROPEANS ON VACATION!!! Those idiots just set the whole region back 20 yrs. That airport was JUST built, Those roads were JUST paved......by lebanese...NOT HUZBULLAH, NOT HAMAS!!

The way I see it, you wanna bomb southern lebanon where the muslim strongholds are.....FINE, DO US CHRISTIAN LEBANESE A FAVOR!! But to bomb Beirut and where there is a largley christian population that have nothing to do with this is just plain wrong and irresponsible. Thanks for posting, you make some cogent points. You will find noone more opposed to the useless occupation of Iraq than me, but something has to give over there and it starts with Iran.

Iran is a puppeteer and unfortunately Lebanon is once again caught in the middle. Not for nothing, but Israel left the airport structure and terminal alone and I don't believe there has been much bombing in Beirut(other than the Syrian border crossing and the road to Damascus), and other than the southern part where Hezbollah festers.

I also have not heard of any American loss of life, but you're obviously right that the 25,000 Americans there are at risk.

As I type this I see where Syria has pledged to support the Lebanese government in this skirmish.

This so-called 'christian' government who is supposedly not involved will have a decision to make. They are in a terrible position. They are not strong enough to confront Hezbollah, yet they can't come out and support them either. Now they will be in a position to accept help from Syria.

I'd be interested in the circumstances of Israel snatching those 4 Hezbollah 'soldiers' that you speak of.

Let's face it, Hezbollah has been shooting rockets into Israel for the last 6 years since Israel withdrew from Lebanon. They had gotten used to mild or no response from Israel. They miscalculated this time when they kidnapped the 2 soldiers and killed 3 more ( the killed soldiers never seem to get mentioned) in the same raid.

I actually think Israel is showing a fair amount of restraint in regard to the Lebanese infrastructure.

I am no Israel apologist and I often question the nature of our relationship with them, but I think they have every right to do what they're doing.

Israel is legitimizing Hamas and Huzbulah by using these tactics. In a way, its legitimizing Syrias occupation all those years. Lebanon (not hamas or huzzbulah) is not equipped to defend itself against anyone and thats why these Muslim organizations have taken root there.

You have to remember Israelis and Christians fought side by side against Muslims in Lebanon. Muslims are the common enemy of both Lebanese Christians and Israelis.
Iran and Syria are the sponsors of Hezbollah and Hamas.
Nobody likes to see innocents die, but somebody has to castrate these Muslim bastards once and for all.

Why pretend it will ever be any different. U.N. is non functional and has continually let Iraq-Iran-Syria give them the finger--glad to see someone stand up to them--unfortunately it is not Syria or Iran that is the recipient--YET! I do have sympathy for parts of Lebanon--but if you look how surgically the strikes have been it is obvious Israel is trying to spare as much structural damge as necessary to still get objective accomplished. Why on earth do you think they take out the runways but not the airport.

Absolutely believe this too. I am sick of the Muslim instigating, the David and Goliath propaganda photos of "rock throwers" vs. tanks, and their general appeal to the western world that they are "victims". The same Western world they want to eventually bring to their knees.

they have given back the part of lebanon that they took in war.........they abandoned gaza.....

and what did they get in return?....the land that they ceded back to the lebanese and the palestinians used as staging grounds for attacks on their cities...

those are facts...

it is also fact that the israeli`s don`t target civilans....as do hezbollah and hamas...

I can understand GG's sentiments--was lots of pro democracy and good things happening in partsof Lebenon--have sneaky suspicion it was intent of Hezbalah to strike from there to try and undo things--flip side Lebenon as other enities with Muslim population has done little to rid itself of extremist.Would have MUCH rather they struck Syria or even better Iran--but as usual they do their work in the backround and refuse to stick their neck out.

The gist of what im saying is Lebanon is NOT Iraq, Lebanon is NOT Afghanistan, Lebanon is NOT Palestine, Lebanon is NOT Iran, and Lebanon is CERTAINLY NOT Syria.

Lebanon is a progressive thinking, cosmopolitan, almost Western country....but it has been used as a sandbox for all these Muslim/Israeli disputes for way to long. Its amazing to me that we, the US of freakin A, would allow a jewel of democracy in such a volatile part of the world be pimped out by these opposing sides. Nothing would make me happier than for the US to send in some fookin Seals and Rangers in to south lebanon and just bounce these muslim nuts the hell out. Not bomb the hell out of the country like Israel is doing......that just makes no sense to me.

"REAL" Lebanese people shouldnt suffer because of decsions being made in Damascus and Tehran. That place is too beautiful and the Lebanese people are too good of friends to the USA for us to just turn a blind eye and say, "Horray, we are bombing the hell out of terrorists!"..........b/c in reality we are bombing our friends
