its amazing how dangerous games always loom right after a big win.

youd think rutgers could get a game with syracuse or uconn to catch their breath.

nope. on the road at cincinnati, who is playing great defense and has just the type of team to knock off the knights unexpectedly. its become a capping cliche to automatically assume letdown off a big win. but cincy poses a legit challenge, especially with the way the cats are playing on D right now. theyre a mirror image of rutgers in philosophy.

cincy is seriously underrated. dantonio is an m'fer who doesnt care how ugly he wins as long as his teams run the ball effectively and play hard hitting defense. theyre in a spot to catch wvu napping this week but i think cincy matches up better with rutgers straight-ahead style rushing game. plus the home field obviously helps. i could see wvu bouncing back with a textbook rout on saturday but could also see a down-to-the-wire game as well if grutza takes care of the ball and they get their run game going. but id be more inclined to jump on the cats next week.

furthermore, lets assume rutgers does get by cincy. it wont be easy. but lets say they do. then the perfunctory effort at home against syracuse.

when they go to morgantown, is it inconceivable that an undefeated team would be a 7-10 point underdog in the season finale? gotta think wvu is (-7) minimum even if rutgers is unblemished.

as far as rutgers/cincy -- rutgers (-6) sound right?

I agree that Schiano has a hell of a job to do this week..keeping these guys focused. 6 seems low...that would draw alot of Rutgers money.

Yup, I'd really love it if I got a touchdown with Cinci, and for that reason, I am sure you are correct that it will be 6 or 6.5.

I am going to have to take some time on these next couple weeks with Cinci.......I dont believe that Cinci has the QB or the playmakers on offense to expose WV like Louisville did......so I would probably be banking on Cinci holding WV somewhere in the low 30's to have a shot at the cover......that may be spot on.

However, the play on Cinci against Rutgers might be gold.......Cinci needs one more win for bowl eligibility.......and assuming they dont get the outright this week......I bet it doesnt come down to at UCONN for their bowl lives.

Tomorrow. CMU -6?????

cmu is much better than wmu. but its tough to lay chalk in the directional michigan games. the better team doesnt always win. look at the way emich played against their directional counterparts. the rivalries are taken seriously by the players even though they arent played in front of huge crowds. although tomorrow should be a good crowd for the chips on a national stage. cmich is more than a TD better. but there are some variables that make it tough to lay the number imo.

more marquee matchups (and some real head scratching lines)

usc (-3) (-101) over california
west virginia (-7.5) (+105) over rutgers

the west virginia line makes sense. the cal/usc line is ridiculous. no way it stays there.

USC is gonna win out. The question then is whether voters will put them ahead of Auburn and Florida. If so they dance and if not Texas will dance.

WVa is gonna rout Rutgers.

GMan how can you even focus on this when Monmouth is taking the hardwood tomorrwo night.

IF usc wins out they deserve to be NC game bound. But I wouldnt be surprised if Oregon ends this SC national title hope this weekend, and I really believe Cal beats SC.

Rutgers beats Cincinnati by 17+..........absolutely no letdown for an undefeated team that hasnt been in this position since st swithen's day. The Knights fully expected to beat Louisville and they did. Don't read into this win too much.

did they take grutza out LW only cuz the game was well in hand (for wv) or playing poorly/hurt?

it was the backup the only reason cinci had chance to cover--depending on line you get.

i distinctly rememeber rutgers playing sfla earlier this year--and sfla shoulda won that game. obviously theu didnt--though only reason they had shot was grothe at qb. grutza to me is a poor man's grothe--though better def and rb's for cincy (as opposed to sfla).

did wv defense put it all together lw or is cinci o that anemic or both? under might be too obvious play here.

gman, any thoughts on whether the loss to wv may demoralize this cincy team? they'd been playing great defense, clearly went into that game with a lot of confidence, and played great d for about a quarter. then the rout was on. i'd really like cincy (to cover, but not win) this week if i had confidence that they'll be able to bounce back from that whuppin'. i'd also LOVE the under, since i think cincy had played something like 7 straight unders prior to last weekend. and at 39... sounds like they are begging for some over money.
