Looks good.....

Is that a serving for one? What would that cost in a restaurant?

:0008

In a restaurant, I eat other things with them.

Maybe start with some Cream Of Crab Soup.

Then a crabcake

About 6 steamed crabs.

And a couple pitchers of beer. :00hour

Crabs in a restaurant are expensive nowadays especially for the big ones and I always get the biggest available. I'm not sure of the prices now but probably $80+ a dozen.

It's best to eat them at home, they're just as good cooking them yourself, Old School style, for a lot less money.

But, man, I wish I was in Baltimore today because that's where I'd be going tonight. I'd be heading out for the meal above.

Did burgers on the BGE last night. I did my spring cleaning last month on the grill. Bought a new electric starter too. It is nearly impossible to screw up a burger on the BGE.

I thought I might try the apple juice marinating thing next time. You ever heard of that?

I cook on a BGE a lot myself. What do you think about your new electric stater? I'm using the charcoal fire starters, been wondering if worth getting the electric.

Electric is great. You'll be pissed you didn't have it all along.

Big Green Egg and crab cakes

Big Green Egg and crab cakes

I've had one for about 10 years now and I love the thing. I use mine a lot for entertaining. Here is what I think is best on it (in order)

1. Chicken (you really can't screw up chicken on it, and it brings out the best in chicken as well). I could cook off this thing every day for chicken.

2. Ribs (Smokes ribs so, so well)

3. Fish (You have to be careful when you put fish on the big green egg, but I like the smoky flavor it adds to fish - and I love fish)

4. Steak (Love cooking NY Strips, Skirt Steak, Sirloins, Filets, etc.) on the egg.

5. Burgers ( I always like cooking burgers on the egg, I find myself mixing it up with the burgers)

6. Everything else, I'm not much of a pork eater but I like shellfish on the egg and just about everything else too.

As for the crab cakes, we get the best over here on the East Coast. I will admit they do make them better in some places in Maryland like the Crab's claw but you'll pay for it as well (I should just say Maryland makes them better than DC or Virginia....lol). Pay through the nose is right, be prepared for a dinner check in the amount of a couple hundred dollars if you have a party of four and have drinks. We go to Chart House and McCormicks and Schmicks (franchises) all the time for free because my wife has a marketing deal worked out with them which is nice. There are a lot of crab places in Annapolis, St. Michaels, Baltimore, DC, Alexandria, and Arlington that tend to do it right. If anyone is up here for business or a vacation, I'd be happy to make a list.

I love New Orleans food and they do it right, but they're a bit full of themselves. Last time I was in New Orleans a few of the locals said they made them better and had better crab than you can find in the Chesapeake Bay, what a joke.....lol

Cheers,

Kneifl

for ever 1lb of ground chuck
2/3 c. apple juice
1/3 c. oil
1 sm. onion, minced
2 tbsp. dried savory
1 tsp. salt (can decrease)
2 tsp. garlic salt or 2 cloves - minced
Combine apple juice, oil, onion, savory, garlic and salt in glass dish large enough to contain hamburger patties that are already formed in one layer. Coat the meat and let marinate, covered, for at least 6 hours. Grill each side.

I am not certain if this will work, but i'll give it a go.

Also, keep in mind that some last a year - some last 5 years. No matter the brand or model.

That's what I have. The first one lasted one use. When I came back outside it was completely burned up (the plastic handle) so I went and got another one and it's lasted for the 7 years or so that I've had it. I even leave it on a hook outside all year long in the elements and still works perfectly.

10:00am - Jack gets the grill out, plugs in electric starter.

10:05am - Jack gets a drink.

3:00pm - Jack wakes up in recliner.

3:05pm - Jack gets in his car to go to McDonalds.

3:06pm Jack drives by his grill. Electric starter is melted and on fire. With eyes as big a quarters, he slams on the brakes and kicks off his Crocs and runs inside to fill up a pitcher of water.

4:15pm - Jack is at Wal-Mart "This doesn't work"
