jacksonville st +6-: i believe the early line jump unjustified and based on market perception. fact is, these are two fairly equal (jsu #96 osu #110), well balanced teams. both have had good results against relatively soft schedules. the one glaring difference between the two is that the gamecocks have game from the arc, shooting 40.9% (26th) and defending @ 29.6% (39th). comparatively, beavers shoot 28.1% (334th) and allow 36.6% (228th). against their best opponents in corvallis this season, osu lost by 9 to #101 wyoming, beat #207 loyola marymount by 4. in only two road games, jsu lost by 3 at #57 miss st, by 5 at #132 buffalo.
gamecock coach ray harper is another great coach you've probably never of. he came to jacksonville last year, inheriting a team that was 8-23 the year before and proceeded to produce the school's 2nd ever 20 win season, 1st ever ovc title and first ever ncaa div i tournament appearance. he's a legend at ky wesleyan college, where a slightly younger loophole briefly played freshman basketball in 1969, and harper won 2 div ii national championships. with leadership like that, i think the gamecocks will keep their mess together in corvallis. i also put a half unit on the moneyline.
