GRAHAM - Authorities served 49 students including a star basketball player warrants on drug peddling charges Wednesday morning, school and law enforcement officials announced at a news conference.
The charges were mostly for selling marijuana. But some of the charges were also for selling cocaine, OxyContin and other prescription drugs. The charges came after a five-month undercover operation in all six Alamance County high schools.
Undercover officers from the Alamance County Sheriff's Department, the Burlington Police and the Graham Police Department purchased drugs in classrooms, hallways and bathrooms at the schools, and off-campus locations, authorities said.
Among the students arrested was JamesOn Curry, a star basketball player at Eastern Alamance High School. Curry is a senior who's signed a letter of intent to play for the Tar Heels next year.
He scored 47 points Tuesday night in a game against Graham High School.
