High school students arrested in drug sweep

2-4-04

By Mark Tosczak

Posted 10:20 a.m.

GRAHAM - Authorities served 49 students including a star basketball player warrants on drug peddling charges Wednesday morning, school and law enforcement officials announced at a news conference.

The charges were mostly for selling marijuana. But some of the charges were also for selling cocaine, OxyContin and other prescription drugs. The charges came after a five-month undercover operation in all six Alamance County high schools.

Undercover officers from the Alamance County Sheriff's Department, the Burlington Police and the Graham Police Department purchased drugs in classrooms, hallways and bathrooms at the schools, and off-campus locations, authorities said.

Among the students arrested was JamesOn Curry, a star basketball player at Eastern Alamance High School. Curry is a senior who's signed a letter of intent to play for the Tar Heels next year.

He scored 47 points Tuesday night in a game against Graham High School.

Way to go kid. Throw your life down the tubes for a shot to live the "thug-life", just like you saw on Mtv.

I hate to assume guilt, but a 5 month investigation pretty much rules out wrong place/wrong time. No way they would have arrested him unless they had the proof, since they knew it would be opening pandora's box if they didn't.

Once he goes through the formalities, I'm sure that Carolina will yank his scholarship offer off the table. Too bad, the kid dropped like 50 a night in high school.

Yeah sure, UNC is not a program that gives out scholarships to kids like this. Take a look at the other 95% of college programs. Carolina doesn't need to dip into the criminal/foreigner pool in order to win.

Its all good, Jameson Curry will never put on a UNC jersey but im sure Dook will pick him up; they like taking criminals on their teams. At least JJ Reddick will be able to buy his pot from someone on the team instead of getting caught smoking in his dealer's dorm room; then Casey Sanders and JamesOn can be cellmates one for felony drug charges and the other for felony assault against his gf. Then they can all take lessons on how to pick up and sleep with an 11 year old girl from Sheldon Williams. Who knows maybe Shavlik and Nock Horvath will get in on the action and just turn Curry gay and make him wear a "GAY? Fine By Me" tshirt. Dook might be able to play some ball but damn they got a sketchy group of players; not to mention some unsafe drivers (Hurley and Jason Williams)

No Cal
Classy dig on Hurley. Living outside Sacto I definitely remember that he was blindsided by a car that didn't have their lights on after a night game. Hardly his fault.

things just keep getting worse for sports at unc

things just keep getting worse for sports at unc

selling drugs on campus-great character choice by coaching staff.i may be wrong but redick was in a room where party was going on and was not charged with smoking-nonetheless selling drugs on a high school grounds is rather serious.yes williams was at fault for driving bike but hurley was hit by other driver.pretty bad to compare that to this james-turnmeon-curry kid.by the way you are right unc drivers are better.phil ford 1st dui blowing a 26 or something and smith who had numerous speeding tickets himself- hiding it from ad and chancellor.classy move.classy school.shame the football and basketball programs have gone to pot.

Correction, by UNC ex-coaching staff. This was a Doherty and staff recruit, not the new guys.

 You've got me there. Phil Ford did blow like a .23.

your wit and intelligence that links james ongrass to hurley and williams actually was funny. [about as funny as my mentioning mike peppers life threatening condition].i am sure that jameson has the grades to get into duke-surely rashad was a number 1 target for duke also.shav turned his back on unc-i actually went to a game with his dad who played baseball for unc-he too knew unc was not the place for him.it must be hard for unc fans to accept how low the programs have fallen.md-duke is much more of a rivalry than unc -duke.unc football has been a joke for yrs.even duke beat them this year.how many coaches have turned them down-in football and basketball.even in girls baskets where duke has won 51 straight acc games .best quote was that beauty queen hatcher saying duke played dirty and maybe she should schedule the football team for a scrimmage-as if buntings team was tough. mens and womens tennis where duke has won about 9 out of ten yrs unc is way behind.check out inside carolina and carolinablue where fans are really crying about this jamesonrecuit.maybe it will free up a scholarship for neil fingerton's brother who is in he top 200.buti am pulling for the tarholes to win tomorrow.duke needs a loss to get them more focused.if unc loses tomorrow-look out nit

we interupt this program for a special public service announcement. do not be alarmed - everyone remain calm. the above exchange, while appearing agitated, is actually normal dinner conversation between duke and carolina fans, and is a temporary condition normally heard only this time of year. things should quiet down at the beginning of next football season, when both groups routinely assume a more humble tone.

we now take you back to your regular programming,

i hat unc.that is true.but i do not think i would make a case for a duke recruit who is caught selling drugs in high school to 2 unc players who were injured in car wrecks.you have to understand unc has fallen so far in both football and baskets -neither state nor duke consider them a much of a rival.they have lost 19 of 21 acc road games.i work in a firm where 29 of 31 employees are unc grads.we have 1 duke fan and 1 state fan.i did not go in today but i can just imagine how this news hit home.unless livingston and deng go pro next yr nothing will change.each yr there gets more separation between the two programs.things are just not like they used to be when dean was around.

Saint how could you leave out Laettner of a drug discussion? I am convinced the drug in question had to be estrogen, but we will never know. Also, drawing a blank on the name, who was the gay player at Puke that transferred to Vandy?

I don't argue a lot of what you say. Although I am a die-hard heels fan, I'm not blinded by my association with UNC. You speak the truth. These are hard times at UNC. Besides women's/men's soccer and some track/swimming, UNC sports are at an all time low. I love sports and I love the ACC. If you know your stuff, you should be able to figure out why Carolina athletics has sunken to a low recently.

Dick Baddour

A class 1, absolute dumb-shit AD. Things have gone downhill so fast since that last Sear's Cup we won. Ever since him and Moeser have had the thrown, this place has turned into a shit pile. You know the good news about this for you state and dookies??? He just got re-signed to a 3 year contract extension. Look at his hirings...Torbush (LMFAO), Bunting who is on his way out maybe, Doherty, he screwed up Roy the 1st time and almost succeeded in screwing it up a 2nd time. As long as this ass is here, we will struggle. Mark my words. As an ex unc athlete heading into a profession where I will have the chance to give back to my school, they will not see a fawking dime from me until that shithead is fired.

Loop...funny post. The most ironic part of ALL of this is that although once football comes I will go back to my cave, State is 2nd in the ACC in bball  Very strange year.

As far as tomorrow, I've got to say that Dook -3 (my fingers are bleeding) is the play to make on paper. Our team is so up and down though, I'm just not sure.
