OK let me get this straight. Pres. Bush is declaring that Jan.2 be a day of mourning for Pres.Ford.

Federal offices to be closed.

OK whats the over/under for the # of years it will be before not one goddamn thing will get done.

i give it 56 more years.

What i am saying between, president's birthdays, deaths , Columbus, marthur Luther king, Christmas , ohh and my favorite LABOR day. veterans, memorial, nations birthday.

with all these ****ing days off in the year, i just do not see any ****ing work getting done in a year.

i am going to quit my job , and "work" for the US government.:mj07:

"the bunker"
if i`m not mistaken,a president`s passing is always followed by a day of mourning(i.e. federal holiday)....

it`s meant as a sign of respect....

i understand that the msm(the bbc, cnn, the ny times, the l.a. times, nbc etc)is giving it`s employees a day off to mourn the passing of saddam....

Heck he was 93 and about as good as Jim Carter wasas Pres. I thought we drop the flags for 30 days. And everyone would fall all over them self's saying nice things. But then I thought they would wrap it up and have a normal funeral. Not all this moving body all over the country. Heck he only made Pres because Dick Nixon screwed up so bad. What Ford make 29 months as Pres.

From what I understand djv he was never one to want the spotlight or the glory. He was all about serving his country. He did that. I don't know what else you want of a guy?

Is interesting
--Nixon bugs Democratic headquarters--impeached and resigns in shame

Clinton impeached -disbarred convicted of obstruction of justice-pergury--does the :nono: on national tv--and serves out his term.

Ford loses election for pardoning Nixon

Clinton pardons cocaine selling brother and 10 most wanted felon for cash and cashes in on books and and speaking engagements-

Strange world--could it be indication of moral standards of poilitcal parties--nah-- prob just coincidence ;)

I'll try to Kosar, but Tricky Dick really settles my hash. ...He did do a good thing with that China ping pong diplomacy though.

Well, at least he never wagged his finger :nono: at America telling everybody that he was innocent. Oh, wait a minute. Never mind.

I think you got that wrong. Ford lost in '76 because Carter admitted to Playboy that he lusted women. Disco was big, lusting was in style, Carter won the people by saying he was a swingin cat.

Wayne,

The Senate acquitted Clinton of perjury and obstruction of justice charges. They did not convict him. Know what i'm sayin'? That's why he served out his term.

Nixon was surely to be convicted by the Senate on the three charges that were about to be voted on by the House to impeach, when he resigned. He had no chance in hell to keep his office. None.

See the difference?

Let's not let facts get in the way, though.

Yeah, Ford just didn't have the sex appeal that Carter did and that cost him the female/gay male vote. That was the difference in the race.

You gotta remember, the religious right wasn't a force yet. They didn't know how to paint lusters and gays in a bad light yet. It was a great time for swingers like Carter.

i saw a biography of ford last night. it seems that the dems forced ford on nixon...saying they will only approve him as vp.and to show you how arrogant nixon was even up until the end, he never thought that he would be forced to resign because he thought that congress would never accept ford as the new pres.....

just a side note.....at first, i thought that ford was 100% wrong when he pardoned nixon.....but i now agree with the decision. it was the right thing to do, not for nixon but for the country.

ford was a very decent man, he restored dignity back to the white house......

i agree with dtb, ford lost the election to carter for a few reasons....one was because he pardoned nixon...& the american people wanted to get rid of the republicans because of the watergate scandal.

djv....jimmy carter was the worst president in american history...by far.

I think you might want to wake up and see who is in there right now. What did Carter do? High gas prices? look at them now. Iran hostages? All came home alive. Today they get their heads cut off. High interest rates? Money interest control this country so they can get rid of anyone they want. I think he did a decent job. All our hostages came home safe and now all our kids are dying for a bunch of thieves. Was it Carter or Regan who imposed sanctions on Iran? The same Sanctions that Cheney brushed aside and did business with Iran when he was not supposed do. The same type of brush away he did when they needed his service to defend the country. You once said you were a liberal. You have very strange thoughts for being a liberal.
Pardoning Nixon was despicable and that bullshit they say now to fool you on how the country needed to heel is just that bullshit. He deserved to lose. To say Carter is the worse by far when you have two complete thieving asshole right in front of you is very commical.

Thank you. Took the words out of my mouth.

Amazing some people still think conmrade Carter is just a regular southern Joe.

And he continues to be a pretty despicable human being, in my humble opinion.

Happy New Solsitce/Chinese/Aborigen Year to all.

I won't pretend to know much about presidents and how 'good' they were up until the early 1900's or so, but Carter certainly rates as among the worst, if not *the* worst, in modern times.

Not surprisingly, 'Sponge' vehemently defends him.

I heard Taft was pretty bad too, but who knows.

Good question

Matt The fact was he was voted not guilty--because you need 2/3 rds vote in senate and EVERY Dem in senate voted not guilty --does not make it so.

Now share with us why you assume Nixon had no chance--are you saying the Rebs in senate would have more integrity to all vote not guilty in slam dunk case like the dems did?
