It's amazing.
350 million people in the US - most of whom never have a problem with guns.
But because of a few, statistically irrelevant aberrant nut-jobs, guns are bad.
There is a reason that the Founding Fathers put the right to BEAR (haha yyz 'bare' - anyone want to run around naked with their guns?) in the Constitution.
Strict gun control laws do not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. They keep them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens. Is it possible that one of these murders would not have been committed with a gun? Yes. The guy then probably would have stabbed her or beat her head in with a bat.
The presence or lack of a gun does not make someone crazy.
I also have a small arsenal of guns. excepting for one old pistol which I inherited from my father, the rest are shotguns. My wife and I are avid clay target shooters, and hunt upland birds. Guns are kept in one location and ammunition in another. There are never any loaded guns in the house or car. If fact there are never any loaded guns unless and until we are actually preparing to shoot.
My home protection devices are a sturdy fence and a large dog.
I do not have any guns for self protection. I don't own a black rifle or a semi-auto pistol. Those guns belong with the military and law enforcement.
I think, IMO, that guys who get a stiffie over high cap weapons, and who daydream about shooting someone else, are borderline unstable and have seen too many John Wayne and Rambo movies.
And that second amendment thingy? Try reading the entire 26 words. It's plain English:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Those who quote only the "shall not be infringed" part are history and legal revisionists.
Scalia be damned. H's a piss-poor jurist.
The Second clearly says it is for the purpose of arming a
militia to protect the security of the
state.
It does not mean to arm every nutjob so he can blow away a kid stealing apples, or a wife who burns the beans.
