Anybody else lose money on that ridiculous call?

Maybe the uniforms should include tutus instead of pants :facepalm::facepalm:

If that's the rule, it's a complete joke.

Actually I think this entire use of replay is turning things in baseball into a bit of a joke. There was a play on a ball Pillar hit in foul territory on Monday night that took over 5 mins to decide if it was a good catch or not....The 1B umpire says no catch (his call as play happened down RF line), but dipshit Laz Diaz calls him out from somewhere at 2nd Base. 5 mins to make that call.....As if baseball can't drag itself out long enough....

As Zaun said after the game last night, replay is basically giving the umpires a license to fuck up even more.
I couldn't agree more.

I went to bed with elevated blood pressure last night. :violin:

That play is a joke. He slide into 2nd base cleanly and yes, he did stick his hand out while sliding but he barely touched the SS's fucking foot. If that is an out, then just about any slide into a base that isn't 100% to the bag should be an out.

WHAT A JOKE!

I thought the call was fair in terms you can't reach out and try and pull someone down or grab them after you have slid....I also lost on the play so don't think I won and that is why I agree with the call.....I think these extra rules are just for the certain people to get the results they want/another way to control the outcome they want...Betting is a business now more then ever..
He didn't need to do any of it anyways, the slide was good but reaching out like that was stupid, having your arms up or out is one thing but you can't try and pull the guy down.

This is on Gibbons and Bautista.

Know the rules and follow them, its simple. Gibbons can act like a misogynist all he wants but the call was correct.

The same thing happened the day before in Atlanta with Nick Markakis being ruled out after sliding past the bag.

Bautista should have been out even before the rule change for grabbing at the fielders ankle.

So this rule had nothing to do with Kang and Tejada getting hurt last year, but is all about screwing people out of their bets.

Brilliant.

If the games are fixed why are you wasting your time betting on them?

There should be a new rule everytime a guy gets hurt right? Instead of having to sacrifice a successful bunt you will now be able to just give up your at bat to move the runner over. Why, because a few guys were unsuccessful in their attempts and broke their hand, but only if the ump deems it ok.... I mean why do u need another rule. Simply call interference and the guy out why do u need another rule.... It's getting like the nfl rule on top of rule.

That was NEVER an out prior to this year. He barely touched the guy.

Guys have been playing this way their entire lives, and now they are supposed to stop. It was instinct.
They've been taught to break up the DP since they were 12 years old.

Agreed. This rule is ridiculous and these new rules are just dumb. Let the guys freaking play and call the guy out if it's deemed necessary.

Instant replay to see if the guy committed a foul? That's like the NFL instant replaying whether or not a hold was committed.

Disagree somewhat

The new rule, good or bad, is a different topic totally....

This was a different play.....you cannot reach out and grab a guy. ....I would've called him out too....sliding hard into second is one thing....but when a fielder is trying to get out of the way to avoid a collision or injury, and the runner grabs his ankle to prevent him from getting out of the way, I would call him out every time.

Sliding hard and at the bag's general area I think is part of game...the new rule leaves a lot of room for controversy....but this wasn't that....he fucking grabbed the guys foot...who cares if he barely got it or didn't influence the throw....if you try grabbing a guy and your intent is obvious, you are out.

Not avoiding a collision and trying to create one are two different things....

You can slide as violent as you want towards the bag...in the basepath.... and hope the defense is in your line of sight....but again attempting to grab a guy is a bush league move, regardless if it is successful or not

I have no issue with hard slides...I think the same as many of you have said, that it's part of the game, but this wasn't that....at least in my opinion...

Sucks when things aren't what they were in regards to quality of product, but at least they are making the changes trying to keep guys healthy and safe....at least that's what I tell myself to avoid getting irritated...

Gl all

PS- I lost money on that call as well....fucking bautista

He grabbed his leg or he stuck his arm out? Because I saw it as him sticking his arm out. And that is no different than sliding hard into a guy.

There's contact made on the grab attempt

That's not putting your arms up during the slide to cause defense to adjust his throw....

Just my interpretation of the play but I 100% would call him out in that instance....if he just went in hard with arms up, then no way...but he deliberately tried grabbing his foot

What is the difference between deliberately TRYING to grab his foot than deliberately trying to slide into a guy, but not the base?

I mean really the intent and result are all the same. Just a different body part being used.
