Vernon Wells is leaving the Jays for the birth of his second child and won't be back until Monday.

Blue Jays recalled outfielder Gabe Gross from Triple-A Syracuse.

The Jays will use Alex Rios in center and Gabe Gross in right until Wells returns next week.

Adam Eaton said his problems tonight were caused by a swollen right middle finger.
''He didn't have his good stuff, and in the second inning, he felt something in his middle finger,'' Padres manager Bruce Bochy said. ''I could tell that he wasn't the same out there in the next inning.'' An examination is scheduled for Thursday. If Eaton misses some time, Tim Redding could come off the DL and rejoin the rotation next week.
