The New York Jets waited until nine days after the season ended, but on Tuesday morning, the club fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano after just one season.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported the firing and other outlets soon followed with their own reports of the move.

The Jets had hired the former Miami Dolphins head coach after he was let go last year by their division rival.

Under Sparano, quarterback Mark Sanchez regressed to the point of being benched late in the year after a four-interception performance against Tennessee.

Also, Sparano, who brought the Wildcat to the Dolphins while he was there and was supposed to do the same in New York, used Tim Tebow with only limited production in that role with the Jets.

I won't poke fun at the shades, because he has a legit medical reason for wearing them, but c'mon guy was a lousy coach. I know you don't have much to work with but really could have done something there...

the guy really lost his way at the end of the Miami gig

he had the wildcat / conservative offense / multiple back / good d thing working and then he started directing chad henne to throw it 50 times a game to a ? at best wr corp and abandoned the run game

not sure where he will land, but guessing it will not be a high level asst coaching position
