How does he continue to have a career in sports where part of his job includes interviewing athletes? :shrug: He sucks so bad, and he asks the most stupid questions.

his go to question is (paraphrase)" You just loused up worse than any athlete in recent memory, How do you feel?
Its like standing on the front lawn with a family while the fire dept. is hosing down their pile of ashes and asking "How do you feel?"

Think this is another one of those circle jerk situations were his "peers" think highly of him.
From what I've heard from other sports guys thoughts on him is that he is loaded and doesn't even need the job. As you can see from all his work, it's probably an ego driven endeavor.
Goofy looking prick though :142smilie I'd start laughing if he got in my grill with those questions. Might even lighten up a poor performance. Loved it when that Yanks rookie shut him down a few years back in the post season, "I'm not talking to you because of (what you said to) Pete (Rose)!

Did anybody see the interview with him and Lindsay Hunter? Hunter was stretching and he came up to him and said if they were going to continue to blame the refs and keep using excuses? Lindsay looked at him and with the most incredulous look... One of these days some athlete is just going to unload on him, hopefully soon...

My uncle called me from LaGuardia today saying he had just had a conversation with Pete Rose while waiting for a plane to Cincy. My uncle certainly isn't a sports fan but said he had a great talk with him. Reading this thread made me think of the awful interview Jim Gray gave Rose at the All-Star game in Boston.
My dad had dinner with Rose one night and he is a big fan of both him and the Reds. He said that Rose is pretty unintelligent unless you are talking about baseball. Earlier that day, Rose was at an autograph signing and went ballistic when a guy asked him to autograph a Cincinatti Enquierer edition that headlined his banning from baseball.
But to get back to the subject, I lost all respect for Jim Gray after he just abused Rose at the All-Star game.

At Reggies retirement game this year, we were standing along the top rail by the entrance having a couple cold ones and my Mom says "Hey there is that Jim Gray guy your Dad hates so much", I tell you it was like something took over my body, I just instinctively yelled "You fuc*ing suck Jim Gray!" And I mean LOUD :com: He gave me a half nod and kept walking, and my Mom smacked me for acting that way in public. I should have pushed him down the stairs. I took a disliking to him imediately after the Pete Rose thing. Perhaps it should have been sooner.

He seems somewhat of a prick, and I too HATE those "how do you feel" type questions. But, at the same time (regarding the Pete Rose interview), he is a "journalist" (of sorts), and the media is supposed to ask tough questions.
When sports journalists contintually as soft ball questions they come off as "home-rs" or end up seeming like they are working for MLB/NBA/CBS/ESPN rather than for a news agency.
A big mistake in approaching the media/journalists is to base their reports on whether or not you "like them" or find them "nice guys". That is how news in this country has turned into a complete joke. Because our evaluation, and preference of the media has become trivial and entertainment driven.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't sometimes. He probably is a prick, but in a sense, who cares? That isn't the point.
