definitely agree with you morris....always showed class...
if you get a chance check out the hbo special on him...it is repeated quite often....
Sadly, though.......he should have packed in the announcing a long time before he did.

had such a distinctive voice ...it seems like today announcers sound a little alike....maybe because i'm an oldie... ABC's keith jackson,howard cosell,etc...will always remember McCays Munich line...' there all gone"...after the airport incident...
All 3 big ABC's voices are gone...ABC's "wild world of sports"...keiths college football...and of course howards boxing and monday nite football. all gone...it's espn sportcenter...miss the good old days sometimes..

that is an excellent point,b&1......the distinctive voices of these announcers ...the distinctive "styles"......cosell with the brashness and bravado(and "dandy don"...lol.)...keith jackson`s folksy,down home southern style ....and mckay had more of a straight forward serious gentlemanly persona....
now,all we get are wise cracking,smart assed metrosexuals like stuart scott and keith overbite.....
a reflection of the generational differences, i guess......
man..how lucky were we to grow up in the 60`s/70`s/80`s........i smile when i reminisce about the good old days...
/though putting $10 into the freaking lawn mower and not filling the tank do kinda put an edge on the smile.....
Cosell (like Barkley) is far more popular now than when he was alive. I remember everybody hating his ass.

Being 41, I grew up watching Jim McKay, he will be missed... one of the greats...
