Me and my lovely bride saw Over The Top the Music of Jim Steinman last night at the Mohegan Sun. A small setting of 300 people and sitting at the table on my left was non other than Jim Steinman himself!
What a show. Two grand pianos, a fantastic guitar player, great drums and bass and four singers who kept switching off. No big names but big talents. Everone was better than the other. For those of you who don't know Steinman wrote Bat Out Of Hell as well as a ton of other songs. He is known as the father of the power ballard.
For a couple of hours last night Rock n Roll was as it is supposed to be. Eveerything louder than everything else and more important than everything else. Teenage love ballads to live and die for.
After the show we even got a chance to talk to Steinman.
If you get the chance to see this show don't let the fact that there are no big names in it keep you from going. It may have been the best show I have ever seen.
