bryanz, was hoping you would elaborate.

It seems many have latched on to the idea that racism is responsible for the unusual virulence of anti-Obama sentiment.

Listening and reading the past few days, you would think the so-called "race card" was a much bigger problem in American society than racism itself.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

The race card in America, is just another politcal card, that is played by left and right extremist when it suites them. Everything is on the table when it comes to political exploitation, why not race?? I think the left has overstated race as the stimulus for anti Obama sentiment but race has played an undeniable role in that sentiment. Obviously, think Carter is a hypocrite and a negative powerful force against what America should be and aspires to be, by the majority. When I say majority, I speak of all Americans of all race/gender/religion/economic satstus and political party. The race card without a doubt is overplayed by some obsevers and participants but true victims of racisim have another perspective. You pose a great question, that has many layers and textures to it's fabric. The race card and rascisim are one in the same, they are both negative forces against unity and basic human interaction because of something beyond ones control..... The color of skin..... Most racist like most people believe in God.. We are created in Gods image, why are we even talking about this ? Doesn't make sense. I have had interactions of all kinds : business/friends/personal /family/ love/sex/,with people from many backgrounds and never did race enter into the equation from my point of view. Racisim is a state of mind. Playing the race card comes from the same kinds of minds. No distinction !

you mean all those posters about him being a monkey and other stuff like that is all in fun? You see the racism right in here with Raymond and DTB. Carter is wrong on this? He is about as wrong on this as he is about the Jewish/Palestine fiasco. It is sad when people get offended in this brain dead country when someone with some balls speaks up.

Thx bryanz, have always respected you as a poster. It is a complex issue and your thoughts were well put.

I agree with much of what you say. I keep thinking some of this fringe stuff will go away if not played upon regularly. I don't have the answer.

No. Carter is not wrong on this Spongey. The visceral reaction to Obama by a large segment of the Republican base cannot be explained away soley on the basis of differing political agendas.

I would guess from all these slants- that he has been a divider and not uniter?

--I don't believe ole whitey voted 98% for Mac.

KC I'd like to throw out a thought on your question. Some of the animousity may pertain to race but not racist.

I think most these protestors (conservatives) don't like direction the liberal element is taking us--socialism!!!!!!!!!!

Don't think but very few dislike O because he is
black--but do think many believe he would have never been elected had he not been black.

Could you see a white person
-with a dysfunctional family backround
--with 0 experience in running anything
--a junior senator
--with ties to radicals
-and member of the KKK to which he proclaimed the Grand Master as his mentor.

--have any chance of being elected pres?

Yet you have the Nagins-Barry's Jeffersons etc that can get re-elected regardless of transgressions.

So who are the racists?

--and with an automatic of 90% + of liberal vote-90%+ of black vote and 66% hispanic vote--do qualifications really matter or with about only 50% of population now paying taxes will one only need to promise to redistribute the wealth to get elected in the future?

hard to respond to this kind of thinking.. but, I do understand..you have to rationalize a non white in the white house somehow ! If the candidate from the left was green in the last election your #'s would still apply.... the black voter has never elected a president in America.....Obama won because of the perfect storm created by bush/cheney & MY party... how funny is it, someone like you, thinks Obama won because he is black ???? Obama won for some of the same reasons Reagan won after Carter. We just went threw, under bush/cheney the biggest redistribution of wealth in American history..Most policies foreign and domestic were huge failures.... I know it hurts but, America has Obama where he is and White America HAD THE TRUMP CARD !!! I guess you will take this one to your grave. You didn't see this one coming and you still can't figure it out.. But I know, I know, you still believe your #'s ... The fundamentals are strong... NO NATION BUILDING, I'M A UUUNITDER, NOT A DEEEVIDER. I FEEL YOUR PAIN ! Who are the racist you ask ? Maybe people like you ! I could be wrong .

I quess my question to you be why has he ran on black/african american theme--and media been complicite--when anyone with an 8th grade education knows that he is neither --

  • Main Entry: mu?lat?to <INPUT class=au title="Listen to the pronunciation of mulatto" onclick="return au('mulatt02', 'mulatto');" type=button itxtvisited="1"> <INPUT class=au title="Listen to the pronunciation of mulatto" onclick="return au('mulatt01', 'mulatto');" type=button itxtvisited="1">
  • Pronunciation: \mə-ˈla-(ˌ)tō, m-, my-, -ˈl?-\
  • Function: noun
  • Inflected Form(s): plural mu?lat?toes or mu?lat?tos
  • Etymology: Spanish mulato, from mulo mule, from Latin mulus
  • Date: 1593
1 : the first-generation offspring of a black person and a white person
2 : a person of mixed white and black ancestry
+++++++++++++++++

Now I assume Webster and I will be tagged racist--because accurate description does not fit your PC agenda--correct?

what ?? don't think he has run on a black theme, if he did , he would not be where he is now.... most older blacks/ voters didn't think he could win, they were behind clinton, Iowa/caucasian support was the spark... Obama never went black.. You were wrong during the primaries.... You are wrong now.. Catch up ! The black vote is < 10 %... You want to grant enormous power to a group that you have zero respect for...

I have no PC agenda, when you say the media has been compliciate in branding Obama black, are you talking about Rush & Beck & bloggers like You ??? Websters ??? Think for your self... I have never voted for a president in my life time based on race.... Everyone I voted for before Obama was white . Never voted for jackson or sharp, did you ?

DTB:

I agree with bryanz. There was a "perfect storm" created by the last administration. The country was ripe for a different perspective. Ignoring the presidential race for a moment, the majority started to "tune in" again to politics. They witnessed the largest redistrution of wealth ever seen over eight years. They had been ignored. The electorate woke up from their perceived "cozy situation" of no war and no federal deficit. Their disgust came to light in 2006 as they went to the polls, and it continued into 2008. People wanted to be heard again.

You have to admit the republican party ran amuck with their base. Countless moderate republicans were defeated in their own primaries as Bush ( I should say Rove) made sure the money went into the cofers of the extreme right wing candidates. The party wanted a purge, even though the candidates were badly beaten in 2006. This only added more people into the discontent. Independents stood up. This caused another republican pounding in 2008. So getting back to the presidential race, one truly could be of green color and get elected to the White House.

Although I have lived and traveled in many areas of the country, I was born and raised in Iowa. A state much different than Arizona, Kansas, and a few others I'm quite familiar with. Iowa got the ball rolling for Obama - a state that harbors very, very little racist ilk. Obama was elected by Iowa and other states that ignore skin color and make decisions based on character & ideas. Also these states, for the most part, would never put up with or lured into a character like Sarah Palin. McCain had no chance with that choice, one of the dumbest to be on a ticket for the White House.
