excellent thread on this fight....

gardenweasel...that is not ruiz's personality at all...i couldnt believe my eyes when i saw what he was wearing...and calling jones a bitch is just not him...ive trained in the same gyms at times with ruiz and ive met him a couple of times ..and i have followed his career ..him being a local kid...some of my best friends are from chelsea who grew up with him...and when i spoke to them last night..they were a little caught off guard as well by his behavior...his manager on the other hand ..well that didnt surprise me one bit...ruiz is not an intimidator nor is he a chit talker ..his M.O. is that he keeps his mouth shut and shows up to fight..whether that is aesthetically pleasing or not is another story...but i found it curious that all of the sudden this guy is an instigator who was talking some chit to jones...maybe just for show...but i dont think Jones is going to lack motivation for this fight..especially after yesterday...

that being said ....we all know jones is the far superior "boxer" and that john is going to have to muddle the water a bit in this fight...but a lot of boxers who are scientifically sound have an advantage over opponents in the same weight class and often times in the same height range...well jab range anyway....if ruiz is able to get his jab off this is going to be an extremely difficult fight for jones...as Ruiz's jab will not allow jones to grab his points by "boxing"....instead he will have to venture inside where in my opinion is exactly where Ruiz wants to get Jones ...there he can use his weight and strength to overpower jones....on the other hand if Jones can avert Ruiz's jab and stick and move this will be a long fight for ruiz ..because he will have to chase jones around the ring while jones moves in and out and is able to outbox him....its an interesting matchup...i havent decided if i am going to wager on this fight nor on who....

im still trying to assess what exactly Ruiz was doing yesterday

glad you weighed in...i hope you don`t take my remarks about ruiz personally...i`m probably way to hard on him...in truth,i think he`s done much more with what he has, than most would have.......i just don`t like getting a championship shot when at that point, you have no wins vs legit contenders...but,he`s not the only one...many guys careers are carefully orchestrated....his handlers are smart....and once again,he`s in a big fight that many believe he has an excellent chance to win...just look at all the guys on here that like him...it`s around 4-1 on ruiz...

the press conference shenanigans were strange.....the pimp and b-tch stuff may have been an attempt at drumming up ppv numbers...

whatever,it gets more interesting by the hour....and appreciated the ruiz info...enjoyed reading your post...g.l.,whichever way you go on this...i`m looking forward to it....

just did something impulsive

just did something impulsive

took a small wager on roy jones via k.o.,t.k.o. or d.q. at +285.....nobody thinks it can happen.....a d.q. is certainly possible...or a cut...roy`s punches are slashing...and ruiz broke up vs holifield...i also remember ruiz being staggered more than once by holi..but,remember,only tua has gotten rid of ruiz...just a whim, not a recommendation......in fairness, at his age, holi just didn`t have the stamina to finish...so,a shot in the dark...a small, lonely little wager...to go with my other small wager(at -180)on roy(not much of a payoff on my roy wager at almost 2-1...more to just have some action and cover the roy by stoppage bet)if it goes to a close decision,as it well might, ruiz and don king will get the nod......also looking at izon-al cole over 8.5....jan piet bergman-khalig over 10.5 rounds.......bergman +200 to win....love winky wright over j.c.candelo but the odds are to high(couldn`t even pull the trigger at -475...now -720!)...pretty close to a sure thing...but those odds are to high(and winky hasn`t been fighting often enough for my liking)...candelo has never been stopped...this bout has an excellent chance to go the distance(over 10.5 rds might be a play).....or winky by decision...to rich for my blood..was also looking at maurice harris-fres oquendo over 8.5...have to lay more odds ....not sure i can do that ....oquendo has shown some bursts of power recently...but,i believe harris is a tall difficult guy to fight....and may be a little goosed coming off his victory in that silly heavyweight tourney....let me think about it...

Ruiz will not be able to find Jones and Jones will be on the horse all fight.

Jones will be able to land and run. As much as I would like to see Roy Jones get pounded, it wont happen in this fight.

Jones wins by decision.

who was that guy in the pimp suit

who was that guy in the pimp suit

yelling at roy jones,"where`s my bitch?"...."where`s my bitch?"......couldn`t be the same guy that got his ears boxed off?...the same guy that got staggered by a light heavyweight?.....the phony couldn`t have hit roy jones with a pinata paddle.....now,maybe he`ll have to fight some top guys to get back into the mix....and norman stone ....what a jerk off....no class whatsoever...

gradenweasel...i never took your remarks in a negative way...was just chiming in...

as i suspected ruiz jab was non-existent and so he was non-existent....Jones pretty much could have done whatever he wanted in that ring last night...and i dont care what he says ..he was stunned a few times by jones

congrats to all the jones backers...

Congrats GW and Jones backers...I never would have suspected that Jones would be the aggressor. His speed was impressive. I had the strategy backwards...Ruiz seemed content to sit on the outside and pick his spots (meanwhile getting tagged at will) and was unable to mix it up or punish Roy at all. Hopefully now, Ruiz will just fade away. I just hope Roy sticks around the heavyweight division for awhile...I can't wait for someone with talent (or heart) to drop his showboating ass on the canvas.

had to laugh reading this badjab.
If you noticed I picked Jones by decision in this fight. I hated to do it but money is money.

I have been waiting for Roy Jones to fight someone that could take him out and shut his big mouth but it just hasn't happened.

I pray every night that he will sign to a fight with Tyson.
Jones having a title belt might appeal to Iron Mike.

I will guarantee you that Tyson would embarress Roy Jones and I would pay to see that. I had a dream one night and Tyson hits Roy Jones Jr and he does a micheal spinks where his eyes roll up in his head.....Good night sweet prince.

Everyone has a plan, until they get hit......Mike Tyson

I watched the fight and thought it was a pretty decent fight. I think Jones jr. is the Jordan, Tiger, ect of his sport. He is that good, yet he knows it. Jones is the quickest fighter i've ever seen. His power in the heavyweight div scares me though. Some of his best shots didn't even phase big ruiz. He makes the other fighter look stupid with his fleet of foot and head movements. Anyway, this is good. Tyson vs jones for the belt, Tyson wins which sets up a total unification fight between him and Lewis. Perfect! I am dreaming?

Jones is the Jordan of middleweights. When he faces a caliber heavyweight Jones Jr is going to see birdies.

On the other hand. If Jones could win over Tyson by a decision or a DQ then we could see Lennox Lewis against ....Jones Jr.

here lies Roy Jones Jr.........may he rest in peace.
