MLB Draft: Padres draft Johnny Manziel in 28th round.
"He certainly loves baseball," Padres general manager Josh Byrnes told reporters. "We kind of talked about it at that time, 'Do you want us to draft you?' He said, 'Yeah, absolutely.' "
Asked the odds of signing Manziel, Byrnes, a big football fan, just smiled.
Manziel played shortstop and second base in high school and wore the No. 2 that has now become synonymous with "Johnny Football" in honor of Derek Jeter.
