Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon will be suspended for the 2014 season due to a second failed drug test, FOXSports.com NFL insider Mike Garafolo has confirmed

This isn't something new for Gordon, who had drug issues during his college days at Baylor. He was kicked off the team following a second suspension for marijuana use. Gordon's first failed NFL drug test was for what he described as a cough syrup that contained codeine. The latter is listed as a banned substance by the NFL.

Waste of talent. Some would kill to have his skills, yet he believes smoking pot is to hard to quit for a bit to pass tests. This just baffles me,not like they have a surprise test.

Agree but isn't it about time to lower the punishment on marijuana? Obviously a recreational drug that neither helps you nor does it kill you.

I don't get suspended, I GET FIRED if I test positive so my answer is NO!!!!And I'm not told when I get tested, it is truly random or if involved in an accident whether the accident is my fault or not.

eeeeee--I don't think you have a valid argument bc as Im sure you know double standards are in play here

In no way, shape or form are these guys "jobs" relevant to ours--there has always been a double standard between athletes and "regular joes" like you and me

Now I understand you may not like drugs, and to be honest Ive never had anything but alcohol..., just think that a year suspension is crazy when people can do it in the US legally

Now if hes sexually assaulting women or things like that then yes prison,,etc...

But smoking pot in the off-season--seriously??

One stupid rule does not justify another. I disagree with these random checks completely unless it can be proven that smoking this stuff compromises your ability to perform your job. Josh Gordon's job is to catch passes and he shouldn't be suspended for a year if this is all he did. Maybe there's more to this story than meets the eye.

I really don't have a problem with it,but I don't think it was during the offseason(not sure).I always said what you do on your own time is what you do.However we know pot stays in your system the longest and even though not under the influence it remains in your system, shit I don't care if a co worker decides to smoke and guess there is no sense in trying to compare our jobs to theirs.Guess I look at it as the risk you take knowing what the rules are.Rules are rules and how come 90% of the league can get by without penalty but some can't,because they have problems..Just bitter that they have it made the money they make and still don't realize it....The one that really gets me is the fucking welfare fucks that get to collect and not have to pass a drug test to collect. While we have to and they just freeload of us workers, but that is a whole nother story.
Ray Rice should face a suspension as well but not sure the league has rules in how to treat women.Think it would fall into some kind of rule but who knows....Most of these guys are above the law anyways,or at least they think they are.

I have very little problem with him smoking pot. I guess the big problem I have is that, while its stupid....he knew he was jeopardizing a lot of money and playing time by smoking it. Its the whole fucked up law where alcohol is legal but pot isn't....but just accept it and play ball. I guess I disagree with both sides in different ways..

That said.....why in the fuck are you driving with anything in your system. Its dumb enough for regular people to do it. No excuses. But to have millions of dollars and drive...he can go fuck himself.

I have no problem with anyone doing pot, alcohol, coke, anything....but when you put yourself behind the wheel.....and on top of everything, you have millions of dollars and can't find some source of a DD (CAB?!?) then you're an even bigger dick.
