MLB record 13-9 +3.57
------------------------
Sides: 7-6 +1.12
Totals 6-3 +2.45
I don't feel quite comfortable with today's card and I only have 1 play:
NYM/NYY U7.5 +110
Here you have the NY Mets facing the top starter Mike Mussina, showing a very respectable 3.55 ERA and an OPP AVG of .255. His K/BB also continues to be amazing this year (5:1). Even if we'd looked at Mussina's last games, it wouldn't matter much as "consistency" is what Mussina is all about.
The poor Mets batter, just unable to score runs (2.56 runs/game in their last 18...), would be very lucky here if they can score more than 2 runs against Mussina.
Now given that, plus the fact that the Yanks are playing some amazing baseball right now (9 games winning streak), it'd be tempting to lay the big money on the Yanks - but I personally don't like to lay that kind of money. But that's not the point.. the point is that they'll have to face Kevin Appier, a pitcher that allowed only 5 hits and 2 runs against the very respectful Yankees batting staff 3 weeks ago, a pitcher who's also coming off a No ER/ 3 hits game (in 8 innings) against the Braves. Despite his poor record (5-8), his ERA is still respectable at 4.18, but what I like the most here is his pretty low OPP AVG (.239). His K/BB ratio is also in good shape (3:1). After a shaky start, things only seem to get better for him. His ERA sets at 3.24 in his last 5 starts, allowing less than 0.8 hits per inning and about 1 BB every 4 innings.
The Yankees should win this game but the score should be quite low, just like the last time the 2 pitchers faced each others (2-1 Yankees). Saying that the Yankees will score about 4 runs in the first 8 innings sounds like a quite logical statement and if they do so, that should be enough to win the game (strong Mussina and poor Mets offense) and avoid batting in the bottom of the 9th, which gives an extra advantage to the UNDER like always.
7.5 is rather low at first sight but here we have many flags on, and we cash in if the total is 7, a very important number in baseball, especially in a pitching duel (4-3, 3-4, 5-2, 2-5..). I saw 8u15 but here I'll take the extra risk to avoid paying any juice and take the extra $$$.
