tell them that people on Madjack's are wagering whether TBONEZ will find the person guilty or not :D

Shud be automatic disqualification due to insider wagering rules set by the BEC (Betting Xchance Commission).

Either case good luck

If you work, then you can get a letter from the company / firm asking that you not be on the jury duty as of now but later on sometime as there is some important stuff right now.

worth a try. One of my colleagues avoided it in that manner I think but not totally sure.

Cheers !!!

Standing on soapbox: I think everyone should feel privelaged to serve jury duty. Yes it is a pain in the ass, but it is one of the things that makes this country great. Our legal system is a little screwy at times, but we enjoy many great things that other countries do not. Giving a day, week, or whatever short time it will be is not that much to ask for all that we receive.

Take a book and some patience and do one of the few things that our country asks of us as individuals.

Off the soapbox!

i once served on jury duty. it was an armed robbery of a liquor store, where the robber killed the owner. after the jury was picked, the case reached a settlement.

from what i understand, the only way to get excused from going through the whole jury duty process is because of illness, injury, sole income source for family, or owning a business.

dawgball beat me to the punch.

I have gotten called twice but was never selected for the jury. Most companies will pay your salary if you turn over your jury pay to them, at least most folks I know who have served have had that deal from their company.

We are lucky enough to live in a country where citizens have the privlege to participate in our legal system it always baffles me people try to weasel out of it whenever possible.

here come the jokez, everyone.....

how to escape jury duty from ASKMEN.com
(KOD's fave website...)

Don't reply -
If and when you receive a jury duty letter, there will surely be a warning, stating that failure to return the form is a criminal offense and you might incur a penalty. The chance could be worth taking, as it's likely that you'll simply be removed from the process and not even receive a follow-up request.

If the authorities want to penalize you, they'll have to prove that you received the letter in the first place -- which is done by signing a registered letter. As long as you don't sign it, you're likely in the clear. Those who don't return the form might include people who were on vacation, have moved, or simply didn't pick up their mail. So if anyone wants to penalize you, be sure to show 'em your tan. By returning the letter, your name is placed in future random selection processes for potential jurors.

Are you objective?
If you are selected and receive a summons, then you are about to embark on another kind of trial, only this one consists of questions and answers to ensure you fit as a jury member for a particular case. The prosecutor, lawyer and maybe even a judge will interview you and evaluate your responses and reactions. Now of course, each side wants to make sure you are untainted and bias-free, and will offer an objective verdict. Here's where you need to use your acting abilities, especially if the case is described to you.

You know, that happened to my cousin's ex-boyfriend...
If the legal staff explains the case, jog your memory for someone you know who may have been in a similar situation. If the trial is about harassment or car theft, for example, and you say that you know all about that sort of thing because it happened to a relative or a friend, you'll be deemed biased and likely disqualified.

Show prejudice
When asked questions, exaggerate your mannerisms and actions. The prosecution and defense might be inclined to choose a potential juror who is on "their side," and if you show any signs of negative subjectivity, you'll be out of there. Helpful hint: shake your head from side to side and make sounds of horror (i.e. "gasp", "tsk tsk") when told anything about the trial.

"...Quo fas et gloria ducunt..."
and if all that didn't work:

when all else fails...

You might not succeed at any of these, or maybe you want to fulfill your role as a citizen and serve as juror. If that's the case, here are some tips on surviving jury duty.

Bring reading material
It could take hours before the trial actually begins and recesses might be lengthy, so bring along a book or magazines to keep you busy.

Review important information
Before going to trial, inquire about where to park, where to eat, how to check in, and other details to make your duty as stress-free as possible.

Arrange with family and employer
Be sure to inquire about compensation from your employer (some companies do pay your regular salary), and tell your family that you might be unavailable during the day... for a while.

Arrive well-rested
Get a good night's sleep and arrive with a clear mind.

Don't socialize
Keep chatting to a minimum; this includes the attractive brunette seated next to you....
TBONEZ0295, still don't know what your preferences are, so i'll assume "men with brown hair..."...:p

Stretch
Use recesses to get up and stretch.

Although jury duty can be an inconvenience, it is a fundamental part of democracy. And like every citizen in an election, you should exercise your right as a juror and remember that your judgement is just as important as anyone else's. So do what you've got to do and make the best of it -- it could even turn out to be more interesting than you thought.

THERE ARE 3 WAYS TO GET OUT OF JURY DUTY WITHOUT ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS I DO IT ALL THE TIME

1-)TELL THEM YOUR UNCLE IS A COP (THEY DONT WANT ANYBODY ON A JURY WHO HAS A FAMILY MEMBER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

2) TELL THEM YOU WERE A VICTIM OF A CRIME YOU WERE ROBBED AT KNIFE POINT

3) TELL THEM YOU WERE ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING BEFORE

I GAURENTEE YOU THEY WILL NOT PICK YOU FOR ANY JURY AND BELIEVE ME BOYS THEY DONT HAVE TIME TO CHECK TO SEE IF YOU ARE LYING

:moon: WORKS EVERYTIME FELLAS IN MASSACHUSETTS

I've only been called once and that was for a Federal Jury duty. The term of service was 3 months, and I was only called 1 time. I stayed from 0830-1000, was not picked, and then I went home. It paid 40 bucks, and my employer gave me a day off with pay. I just wish I could get called more. I have always felt it was an honor to be called, I just never do for whatever reason. I think it's funny in the Voi Diere (sp??) when people ask to approach the judge because they are too embarassed to answer the questions, even simple stupid questions. Like anybody there gives a rat's ass about them and their traffic tickets or child support!

BEANIE- here in philly they "pay" you $10.00 a day I'm a little disapointed that instead of doing the dutie for our great great country you feel its better to resort to stealing your wifes piggybank and your pops S.S. check

:nono: SHAME ON YOU BEANIE just think its almost enough to get you started with Beverly Hills babe you should really reconsider what your doing.......... and to think I was starting to find you not only funny , but very very attractive;) almost like a computer romance type of thing.

TB - If you really had hard plans, then send them the copy of your airline tickets and/or hotel/house reservations to show them you are going away. In regards to "settling down", I dont think my one line statement was out of line or high strung at all. I was simply stating my opinion that it disappoints me people are not more willing to serve on juries in this country, when having a jury of our peers is one of the greatest things our legal system offers a defendant. If youre offended that I feel that way, sorry.

Go ahead and do it. You will find it interesting. You might even find some nice guy to hit on. 10 bucks sounds like here. That and we got lunch and dinner brought in. My company at the time did make up any differance in pay. We have a 35 day period we are on call. Of course if you have along trial you stay no matter what. However they did get to me twice in less then 10 years. I was given a pass on the second time.

Personally I have served twice, both times a death was involved. Once in a civil suit, once criminal. Being in a position like that is not something I really enjoyed but did it. On another note though is I doubt I would ever get past jury questioning on a trial involving drugs sales involving marijuana or illegal bookmaking as I would say I think both should be legal. :p

Maybe my info will help you. I just finish my serve as a juror yesterday. 2nd time called but first time serve. Actully is not the bad unless is a big case that you have to stay at a hotel they put you with no news or TV. (for your safty and/or to inf. your judgement).

Some people whos family member is a lawyer or cop, even if ur selected to the panel, the def. lawyer will try to dismiss you. something funny is the judge ask " is there someone that you admire of " tell them one of the mayor or senator that hates crime, the def. lawyer will try to dismiss you also.

come to the end, I want to tell you is, to be a juror, is not a bad experience, a little bored, but you learn something from it.

Good luck:)
