Telkonet Chosen for Best Western GB Broadband Internet Solution; The Best Western GB Group Commences an Aggressive Broadband Roll-Out Across the United Kingdom
October 31, 2005 09:00:15 (ET)
GERMANTOWN, Md., Oct 31, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Telkonet, Inc. (TKO, Trade), the US-based leader in providing in-building broadband access over existing electrical wiring, reports that it has been selected as part of a major contract with the Best Western Hotel group, involving the installation of broadband Internet services. Best Western GB is planning to install high-speed Internet access in more than 200 hotels by the end of 2005. As part of this initiative, a contract with Best Western has been awarded to Divine Internet, a recently-established specialist installation company, to incorporate Telkonet's powerline communications (PLC) technology in a number of these hotels as part of a comprehensive broadband package. The first installation involving Telkonet's iWire System(TM) was completed in September 2005 at the Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel in Edinburgh, with the Best Western Dean Court in York and the Best Western Midland Hotel in Derby following in quick succession.
Divine Internet was awarded the status of the Best Western preferred supplier for broadband installations on the basis of its creative package, which combines a range of carefully tailored solutions comprising Telkonet's PLC technology, wireless equipment from Zyxel, and the ANTLabs Zero Configuration gateway. Russell Imrie Chairman of Best Western GB and Managing Director of the Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel, detailed their requirement: "Best Western Great Britain decided to implement high-speed Internet access in all public areas and guest rooms by the end of 2005, in response to Best Western's global initiative to target Internet access in 15% of all bedrooms. Our Head of IT and Database Mike Goryl researched the market, and identified Divine Internet as our preferred supplier."
The Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel in Edinburgh was the first in an aggressive installation program across Great Britain, enabling the Best Western group to offer a state of the art high-speed Internet service to guests in all areas of the group's unique, individually owned and managed hotels. Comprising six classic townhouse buildings from the early 19th century, together with a recent extension, the Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel has 71 rooms and is located in the centre of Edinburgh. Divine Internet installed Telkonet's PLC technology as the backbone throughout the hotel, with Telkonet iBridge(TM) units in all bedrooms in the older parts of the hotel, mounted discretely behind the writing desk. The public areas are served by wireless access, supported by further Telkonet iBridge units for customers requiring hard-wired secure access.
Expanding on the installation process, Russell Imrie commented: "We were delighted here at the Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel to be the first to implement the new solution, economically upgrading a total of 71 bedrooms with wired high-speed Internet access, as well as providing a combination of wireless and hard-wired access in our public areas and conference rooms. We held a Best Western Europe marketing meeting the week following the installation, involving 24 delegates, who all required high speed Internet access, and everything worked fine."
Russell Imrie believes that the installation has future-proofed the Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel for a highly economical investment: "We now have the backbone in place that will enable us to deliver future guest services quickly and economically - such as Voice over Internet, interactive games and video on demand. We have future-proofed our hotel with this investment, and my original fear of seeing guests waiting at reception with their laptops for advice on how to connect to the Internet has quite simply evaporated."
The agreement is between Divine Internet and Best Western GB and is not for public disclosure.
