My wife and I moved down to C-bus when she got a pretty incredible offer from a company down here that was recruiting Michigan MBAs. Apparently, her offer was too good bc when they needed to lay people off, she got the boot (despite being in a retention program). Since we moved here for that job, it pretty much effed up everything. The good news is that she hated her job anyway and ended up finding a job she actually enjoys....albeit at a little lower salary.

Her package was one lump sum, but there were strings attached. If she found a job before her severance package ran out (based on service time), she was supposed to give back a chunk of it....yeah right. She got a job before the package timeframe was supposed to run out and we didn't payback shit. How can they actually enforce it?

Anywho, I recommend sending your resume to someone that can review it and help you get it ready. Feel free to get my email if you want advice.....I do this for people at wok all the time. Get your finished resume in the hands of a couple recruiters, goto the company websites of places you'd like to work and check their postings, and put your resume out on the net.

Recommended reading: What Color is Your Parachute? . It is the best book I've ever read on the whole job search process.

Take care and best wishes. It'll work out, I promise.

On Sept.3 I was let go. I filed for unemployment that afternoon and though it was not much it was still money coming in.
I started a new job on Oct. 6, so for about a month I got some things done around the house and got my property ready for deer season.
Like someone said in a earlier thread don't sit around. Network with friends and other co workers you know and things will fall into place.

Sorry to hear man. I've been laid off before and it's no fun but I always ended up finding something better. I'm sure you'll find a GREAT new job somewhere soon.

What exactly did you manage? My advice would be to not sleep. What I mean by that is to be aggressive now in finding a new job. Taking a break now is not a good idea based on what is happening w/ our econ. Early bird gets the worm no matter what hell you just went through. There are thousands just like you.

If you need time, take it,the world is not going anyhow!!Also someone said you cant collect(Unemployment) while you get severance.
That is just not true.

During these tough times ,steppping back and taking a break is not such a bad idea.

Been there done that....a couple of times.

Just like they say, one door closes and other one opens...........moved up each time....

Things seem to always work out for the best, may not seem like it now, but when you look back on it...it will.

Sorry man I feel bad for you losing your job. I just had to layoff a few (3) of my workers and it really got to me this close to the Holidays. However the few I layed off I told them that I would help them financially as much as I can until the end of the year.
