Had someone bring a dog once. It pissed in the corner and I cleaned up dog hair for 6 months!!!

This, but not a definite NO like Sports said. You would be a tough person to live with Sports.
I would ask first and expect the same courtesy in return.
Yeah you have to ask, I only feel comfortable bringing to my sister's house. I wouldn't bother bringing my dog to any other family, he cans stay home. Some of you have seen pics of my boy on FB,. He goes with me everywhere just about, I am lucky that my clients allow my dog to come to work with me, plus it does benefit my clients as well cause instead of working 8s, I can work 16s without worrying about the pooch.
I do have a husky mix and she lives outside, but that is totally her choice. Sometimes she comes in and sometimes she doesn't. She has a huge yard, heated dog house. She comes in when she is hungry but she loves to be able to watch everything outside.
