Grab kansas at -5

Kansas is playing better then any team in nation right now. Over last 5 games they are shooting 55% FG, 50% 3 point, 79 Ft %, and out rebounding opponents by 10 a game. To beat kansas you have to play error free because with stats like that, they give you no margin for error. The only thing that suffers on the road is the 3 point shooting, where it dips to 39%.

Does texas have the ability to play error free?

- They are a poor shooting FT team at only 68%

- Their 3 point shooting has gone south, only hitting 30% over last 5

- They have lost 2 of last 3 at home, one being to lowly A & M

- Have given up avg of 85+ last three at home

When playing a chalk on the road I want to make sure they can hit those FT at end of game if they need them. On the road, Kansas still hitting them at 78%.

This should be the last potential stumbling block for Kansas having a perfect conference record before season ending game at Missouri. They go home after this against Baylor and IS. There should be no looking ahead and lots of motivation.

Texas may stay in this game for awhile on emotion but kansas beats their will in second half.

Take Kansas - 5

Ask yourself this: If it was Duke on the road at Texas, how many points would Texas get? Take maybe a couple of points off that number, and that's what the Kansas number should be. Here's some comparable teams to Texas and what Duke was giving:

1/24/2002 Boston College 12.5

1/13/2002 No Carolina St 10

This is kinda flaky, but if you think Kansas is right there with Duke (which I do) then you see what I'm getting at. Five is too small.
check out what both teams did to a common opponent in the last week. Texas lost at KSU. KU dominated KSU. Anything can happen on the road, but the Longhorns really don't matchup here.

well i pounded Kansas at 4.5 thinking the public would be all over this one......already up to 6.5 and rising.......

gonna buy this one back by game time and hoping it hits 7.5 or higher......Texas will play them tough at home.....plus they have a point guard......no team other than OU has had point guard that has played Kansas tough in conference......and OU came close to beating them at Kansas.......

should be a good game tomorrow and if Kansas loses in conference this year......it will be here.......

I think Boston College would beat Kansas St. You know this kinda thing could go on for days....

while I'm at it, we have another comparison team, Colorado.

they came to Kansas and got hammered
they went to Austin and competed..

And to the doctor:

They're going to need more than one freshman to be a ball-handler and distributor against KU. Ford is very good, but check this out:

From the Austin American Statesman:
Note: UT point guard Fredie Williams did not play in the second half after aggravating a sore tailbone, and Barnes was uncertain if the senior will be ready for Kansas. Williams first hurt himself when he landed hard on his back after flipping over a Texas A&M player on Wednesday. He re-injured himself Saturday at the end of the first half when he drew a charge.

"It's a bigger deal than I thought," Barnes said of the injury. "I'm really worried about him."

If they plan on playing anything like they did against Colorado, they're gonna get drilled, especially with one of their gaurds out. Can't use the running game, KU is too used to it and they're too deep.

I expect they'll try to slow it down, but eventually it will get away from them and they'll get sucked into Kansas' game.
Like I said, you never know.....but that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.....aw f**k it, who wants pie?

....a big middle sounds good too...who could argue with that? Whatever y'all decide, good luck.

update from Austin Stateman...

UT senior point guard Fredie Williams, nursing a sore lower back that "has been killing me," said Sunday his pain won't keep him from playing against Kansas.

Williams drew a charge late in the first half against Colorado on Saturday that aggravated the condition that occurred when he landed hard on his back after flipping over an A&M player last Wednesday.

"I'll try my best to help," Williams said. "I don't like missing any games, especially a game like this one that means so much to us."

Texas Coach Rick Barnes said he probably will start the game with Deginald Erskin on Gooden. Despite giving up four inches in height against Gooden, Erskin is more comfortable defensively away from the basket than Thomas.

"But we do a lot of switching, so I don't know if it really matters much who starts out on whom," Barnes said

Texas' home record in ESPN Big Monday telecasts is 5-0, while Coach Rick Barnes has posted an 8-4 mark in the Erwin Center against teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25

Nice info Wigs my man....Freeze don't know where your getting 6 and higher buddy, but you should have waited bc the line is DROPPING not RISING........I think that UT keeps this game close throughout as long as Thomas doesnt get in foul trouble....As far as those shooting stats are concerned, Brandon Mouton is getting his stroke back for UT which could possibly cause trouble for Kansas.....I think Barnes will try to get Gooden and Collison from under the basket to give UT better offensive rebounding positions.....In other words the 3 is the KEY tonight!!!! Ford will no doubt show Kirk Hinrich and Jeff Boschee how good a point guard he really is........If Kansas lets Texas get set in their defense meaning not too many transition buckets for the Jayhawks, UT will win this outright.....GLA!!!!!

KMAC

P.S...this is a lot of IF's so I will be watching this one.....

Regarding the game.....

Regarding the game.....

Keys for a Texas victory:

  • Solid transition defense
  • Both TJ and J. Thomas will have to have monster games
  • We need to shoot 55% and also make 80%+ of the FT while holding KU to under 40% shooting
  • Ford also needs to be hitting the long range jumper to get KU's defense expanded out to the perimeter, and then bury them inside.

IMHO, our biggest problem for this game and the remainder of the season is an unhealthy Fredie Williams. At the end of last season he was considered one of the top 5 defensive guards in the country -- he was capable of shutting down any guard in college basketball. His injury- diminished talents have really hurt the Horns' outside defense -- I don't think that our opponents' 3 point FG% would have risen as much if Fredie had been at full speed all season. If I am not mistaken, he was also the Horns' best 3 point % shooter. He has not come close to regaining his former level of play. We need him at 90% to 95% just for his defense. A few more points per game wouldn't hurt either. His points per minute have been abysmal in some games.

The injuries to Fredie and CO have been extremely costly in terms of leadership, defense and scoring. They forced opponents to adjust their game strategies and play. This season the primary adjustments are for TJ -- one player. I don't see Fredie playing much today barring some miracle recovery. That being the case, I do not believe TJ, Ivey and Mouton can hold down the KU outside shooters. Terrell Ross just hasn't had enough PT for us to expect much from him as yet. Of course, my hope is that the Horns find a decent defensive effort and two halves of shooting equal to that displayed in the first half against BU, then we win.

However, I seriously have my doubts as to how we can win. Kansas has a great team this year. I have seen them play five or six times on the tube this year and came away impressed everytime. There two wing players Hinrich & Boschee are deadly from outside. I think Hinrich is knocking down over 70% of his three pointers, which is just sick.Ivey & Mouton have to stick to these two like glue.

I would take Kansas -6 up to -8

Interesting in that we have two teams who both scored over 100 points in their last game and now are playing on one days rest. LV Sports Consultants has hung a 162 total. I'm thinking this one gets played at a slower pace than what happened Saturday, although I'm hesitant to play Kansas going under.

I don't know if it was at -6.5 when he posted or not but he is right in the point he was making in that the line is moving up and not down. You were saying it is going down, where do you see that?

BTW lil Bro just a little FYI.......dont get too sick bc Hinrich is hitting 47% from 3-land and Boschee 44%......that still impressive but not 70%.....

as far as point guards go......kid for Kansas -- Myles is close to Ford......so Hinrich and Boschee probably won't guard Ford too much.......

I think this turns into a track meet tonight and over looks like a good play......number is huge, but Kansas has been hanging 100's up with ease and I don't think Ford is gonna be afraid to run tonight......

Kansas @ 4.5 looks sweet!

Kansas @ 4.5 looks sweet!

Lets hope it pays and if the number skyrockets by game time I will have to play a middle. This looks like one of the better middle oppurtunities I have seen in a while.

Just checked Carib and still @ 4.5:shrug:
