Forgive me Cisco for taking your thread the rest of the way off topic.
By the time Spanish shipwrecked sailors made it to Galway Bay in the latter part of the 16th century, the religous split had long been entrenched thru the efforts of the O'Neills in the 11th century. The plan of the Spanish was to rescue the Irish from Protestant influence which failed. Their influence was thru inter-marriage rather than O'Neill's rape and pillage of what was left. I think O'Neills descendents are working for Capital One.
Again, sorry for detouring this thread, it has a vey good point

i never really bothered to study up on what was true as opposed to wives tales. i'm glad there's a murphy who actually knows his irish history - as opposed to my basic ignorance.

as for hijacking threads ...hell, we haven't even got kosar's take on how katrina is affecting the cast of saved by the bell. i think mr. belding has family in new orleans. i hope they are ok.

On the course!
Everyone gives BTJ a hard shake, but I have an audio clip of why he is so uptight (and seemingly bigoted). It's just his jealous nature from when his dad took him to a land auction as a little boy, and this is what he heard:

Poor Jim........

After warning everyone to evacuate and telling us how severe this hurricane is going to be, we will now get to see the idiot reporters out in the hurricane to show us how bad it is.

How stupid can you get? :jerkit:

Well, on the 25th response, I'll stay on topic.

Did you check out the guy on the weather channel who was standing in waist deep water to illustrate how deep it was and to top it off, he was holding a wind gauge in one hand and a microphone in the other.... :mj07: :mj07: . He continued to talk into the mic, read the wind guage and lean into the 50 mph wind....what an idiot!!!

Jim,

It amazes me that you could find humor in something that will cause billions of dollars in damage and could leave a million homeless. It's impossible to estimate how many people might be killed in this disaster. My prayers go out to them all.

Some people find you funny and they have that right, me, I just think you're getting a little old...

ditto

i'll attempt to do the same on the 28th ;)

not only are these people idiots for standing out there, but from one clip i saw today they either majorly lie, exaggerate, or are CLUELESS!!!

watched one guy giving a report today about a street that was presently covered with 8' of water!!! the scene was behind him, and at a bare minimum there was 1'6" of parking meters sticking up above the water..... how the hell tall do the people that live here have to be for the meters to be able to be fed and read at that level??

one other side note: BTJ is being an @SSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems they did not have to put on a show. Now the real facts are coming out. N Orleans looks more then half ruined. There saying 80% under water. If there BS-ing us even 40% is terrible. Mississippi is such a disaster. 35000 homes ruin? Alabama reports are starting to clime. The deaths are mounting. So all those reporters now can do there jobs with real facts.

I hate to say it but BTJ was dead on this time. It's unbelievable what's going on down there. I understand these people's lives have been turned upside down but that doesn't make it ok to beat, rape and kill other people. :cursin: :cursin:

FWIW,

I see alot of people bashing BUSH about why he didn't send in the troops.

I don't know if this has hit the media waves, but BUSH was the one who CALLED Kathleen Blanco (La. governor) and STRONGLY URGED her to get Ray Nagin (N.O. mayor) to declare a mandatory evacuaion.
This was a day after Nagin did NOT want to delcare a mandatory evacuation, b/c in his words "I have a LEGAL issue to get everyone out, and I can't"
Legal issues or not, some people weren't going to leave anyway. He should have declared the mandatory evac. 24 hrs before.

IMO,
Nagin was more worried about lawsuits if he didn't get everyone out and CHOA.

There were buses ready to take people out of the city.

also, I see some people are saying this is a race issue and the poor, black people of N.O. are only doing what they are doing for survival.

I have NO problem with getting food supplies, water, diapers, etc. from the store to support themselves, but what does a 64" Plasma from Circuit City going to do at this time, except using it for a table.

finally,

PLEASE someone explain to me, the RAPINGS, BEATINGS, and SHOOTINGS.
I don't care how poor you are thess are barbaric, animalistic actions.
Please someone try to validate these actions, esp. when they are RAPING, BEATING, AND SHOOTING EACH OTHER!!!!!

In a city that has a rape everyday and two shootings What ever made anyone think it would stop because of flooding. Now when you dump folks into area meant for half as many. Get ready for trouble. I'm surprised there was not more. For sure when folks go where told. And there is no help there for two three days. And in many cases four days. Way to slow.

Now if the cops are fired upon like in New Orleans take no prisons SHOOT TO KILL
