Would love to hear perspectives from hometown cappers about their teams. Going to share a few thoughts about this season, starting with the Royals.
The Royals signed a smoke in mirrors contract with Sweeney this week. It's suppose to be an indication that owner David Glass wants to become a real player in the American League.
Sweeney got the best of this deal, all kinds of bail outs including the team must finish over .500 in 2003 or 2004. After losing 97 games last year, Mike Sweeney will be playing for the Yankees in 2005. Only a ploy by Glass to fend off the commissioner's axe and keep the 20,000 faithful fans from boycotting.
Let's face the facts: The Royals have three young guys up the middle, defensively (trade material) in ss Neifl Perez, 2B Carlos Febles, and CF Carlos Beltran.
Lets point out the Royals other strong points:

?
Oh, I forgot, there aren't any.
Starting pitching: Suppan, May,Byrd,Durbin,&Reichert. Excuse me while I'm laying on the floor busting my gut laughing. Their Double A Wichita Wranglers have better pithcers for pete's sake. Roberto Herandez is still tagged as THE closer, sorry, he is pitiful - less than average. The Royals have Yankee's cast off Chuck Knoblauch though.
Maybe the Royals improve this year, losing only 96 games.
The rest, briefly:
In the AL, looking for Texas to step it up big time with a great offensive lineup, can Park/Rogers and company keep them in there, who knows. Still see them much improved.
Twins will be for real all season long this year, winning the AL Central. Guardado is a real deal closer. White Sox a close 2nd. Oakland wins the west, Yankees win the east.
In the NL, Cardinals are the best and may be the next World Champions if they can beat the Yankees. Replacing McGuire with Tito will win them another 8-10 games. ATL in the east, ARZ in the west. Upcomers will be Cubs,Astros,Mets and the Giants will also be strong again this year.
Have a profitable season everyone!
