BYU +6 Double Play W
BYU won by 2 at Arizona, lost by 1 at Utah, lost by 3 vs UCLA, lost by 3 at W Va and won by 2 vs Toledo. Five pretty good opponents and 5 really close games. Why not more of the same? I'm just not very impressed with Michigan State this year. Throw in the fact that the Spartans are only 9-18 against the spread as home favorites in their last 27 games and BYU is 19-7 as dogs in their last 26 games. I'm on BYU +6 as a Double Play.
HOUSTON -17 Double Play L
When I think of the Tom Herman coached Houston Cougars, I think of an explosive offense led by Greg Ward at QB. Rightfully so, as they are averaging nearly 500 yards and 45 points per game. But the Houston defense this year is what's really impressive. After 5 games Houston is 5th in the nation in total D, 4th in scoring D at 10.5 points per game, 1st in rushing D at 37 yards per game and 1st in yards per carry at 1.5 yards! That's against a schedule that includes Oklahoma, UConn and Cincinnati. Navy only rushed for 63 yards in 38 carries last week vs Air Force in a 28-14 loss. How in the world are they going to be able to run the ball vs Houston? Throw in the fact that Houston is 19-2 against the point-spread in their last 21 games and I'm taking Houston -17 as a Double Play.
MINNESOTA +2 Double Play L
Minny lost a heart-breaker last week as Penn State tied it with 2 seconds left on the clock and won it by 3 in overtime. I think the Golden Gophers rebound here vs an Iowa offense that is 95th in the nation in rushing. Minny is 6-1 as a Home Dog and 13-2 as an underdog in Big Ten games. I really like Minnesota's chances playing at home, so I'm taking Minn +2.
The trouble with these write-ups is....if you are totally wrong, your write-up makes you look like a fool. I just like to give my reasons why I'm betting on someone. Obviously, you can decide for yourself if you agree or disagree.
