CAROLINA -5 1/2 Double Play
I think we can all agree that Denver and Carolina deserve to be in this years Super Bowl. Like almost every game in the NFL, you can usually have a number of good reasons to take either team. Denver has an outstanding defense and they are an underdog, getting 5 1/2 points. Those are 2 pretty good reasons right there. But here's why I'm taking the Carolina Panthers.
#1....Carolina absolutely crushed Seattle and Arizona, who in my opinion are both better than Denver. Seattle had the #1 scoring defense in the NFL only giving up 17.3 points per game, Denver was #4 at 18.5 and Arizona was #8 in the NFL at 19.6. So you can argue, that there is not much of a difference, all three teams have outstanding defenses! Carolina scored 80 points total on Seattle and Arizona!! I don't know how you can overlook that fact alone. By the way, Carolina's defense is not too shabby either, they were #6 in the NFL in scoring defense at 19.3 points per game. In rushing defense this year, Seattle was #1 only giving up 81.5 yards per game. Denver was #3 only giving up 83.6 yards per game, Arizona was #6 at 91.3. Carolina rushed for 144 yards vs Seattle and 152 yards vs Arizona. They've rushed for over 100 yards in 30 straight games!! They were #2 in the NFL rushing for 142 .6 yards per game. In my mind, that's huge. If you have success running the ball in the NFL, you are going to win almost every time out. Maybe that's why Carolina is 17-1 on the year. And by the way, Carolina's rush defense was #4 in the NFL only giving up 88.4 yards per game. So again, their defense ain't too shabby either.
#2 Cam Newton vs Payton Manning.....No brainer, this favors Carolina in a huge way.
#3 Turnover margin....On the year, Carolina is now +28 and Denver is -2. To me this is huge too. Turnovers also go along way in determining who wins in the NFL.
Finally, I just think Carolina has the swagger and this is their year. I really don't think this game will be close!
