sonny johnson plays for ohio.

having said that- its a tough game tomorrow.

kent is due for an ATS loss. theyve been a covering machine lately.

but keep this in mind. niu's improved play of late is keeping this number shorter than it normally would be.

the last few years, niu has been 18/19/20 point underdogs in kent and STILL not covered.

kent hasnt blown anyone out at home lately. normally they just rip teams a new a$$.

its a conflicted game.

kent normally lays closer to 20 to niu, and still covers.
but kent due for an ats loss.
its like their 5th game in 12 days or something like that.
but betting against kent at home can be suicide.

just a real tough game.
id pass it altogether

gman,

Thanks for the heads up.

I listened to the BALL STATE V Ohio game on net radio and Sonny Johnson just stuck in my mind. Great player.

Still can't understand why the Linesmaker makes KENT 10 pt chalk when No Illinois is playing so well.

You make a good point about Kent not blowing anyone out lately.

They were a popular play yesterday @ BG+3 and barely escaped with the win/cover +3 ats.

If Kent covers tomorrow, they'll definitely be on the radar screen for their game on Feb 12th @ BALL STATE.

Kent State, Senior Forward, Antonio Gates only needs 17 points tomorrow to reach 1,000 for his career.

buddy- thats what makes this hobby so tough sometimes.

your perspective is that kent SHOULDNT be laying 10 points to NIU, who is playin well right now

my perspective is that im surprised kent isnt laying MORE at home, because the last few years, niu has been +17 and +18 to kent in the maac center.

kent has covered lately, but hasnt really hammered anyone.
niu could hang around. but i just think the number is really really shaved.

if the number was closer to what i expected (+14 or +15) id consider niu. but i could never back niu at (what i consider to be) a short price.

gl with your decision

and to make the johnsons more confusing.

sonny played at cleveland state. then transferred to ohio.
his brother juby is playing well for miami (oh)
and their brother meechie has committed to kent state next year.

3 brothers, all gonna play at 3 different schools, in the same conference. makes your head spin.

but youre right- sonny is good. hes been injury prone- and thats hurt him. but when hes on the floor hes a solid player. was a damn good high school player and havin a nice career at ohio

gman,

Wouldn't you agree based on NIU's recent performance, the line couldn't be any higher than what it is. Even 10 seems to be mighty generous.

Granted, the line may have been higher in previous meetings, but then you'd have to consider recent performances by both teams in relation to the opening number.

Anyway, comparing our handicapping styles, my method is more general in nature.

I use ats trends, team roles and recent performances.

But what I find interesting is we have two different perspectives which may arrive at the same conclusion.

From just glancing at the matchup chart at covers.com, my impulse would be to grab the dog plus the points.
But my better judgment tells me to lay off.

Personally, I think KENT - wins/covers in this matchup, but I'm not putting my money at risk.

I'll be content to wait and see the outcome.

The Linesmaker is shrewd.

I think he's looking for No. Illinois money.

It's still a no play for me, but I'm interested in how this one turns out.

good post bud.
you bring up some valid points.

in regard to what you said about the linesmaker lookin for niu money, id agree with that based on recent performance and play.

in that particular respect, you are probably right- line cant be much higher than the current 10.

i guess just from watching kent dismantle teams at home the last few years- im surprised the line isnt higher. the natural response is "kent isnt the same team as in recent years", but this team is so similar to last years tourney team. and even goin back a few years, kent is just lights out at home.

and im used to seein NIU get pounded in this building. no doubt niu is improved, but 10 might not be enough.

definitely respect your posts and capping style. your insight is appreciated.

gl tomorrow
