Kid Rock arrested on assault charge
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Kid Rock was arrested Wednesday in Nashville and charged with punching a DJ at an adult entertainment club.
The entertainer was released shortly after 10am after posting a $3,000 bond on a charge of simple assault. It's a misdemeanor, carrying up to a year in jail.
As he left the Criminal Justice Center, Kid Rock quipped, "Everything is wonderful. It was a beautiful night."
A few hours earlier, he had appeared in Night Court.
The incident occurred shortly before 3am at Christie's Cabaret, located downtown.
Police say Kid Rock and disc jockey Jerry Campos of Cedar Hill had words and Kid Rock punched Campos in the face twice.
Police caught up with him about four hours later at an apartment near Vanderbilt University. He came to Nashville to perform the song "I Saw the Light" during a memorial service for songwriter Merle Kilgore at Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a Vanderbilt University policeman was fired Wednesday for asking for the performer's autograph when he stopped his car. University officials said Juan Monarez suspected Kid Rock had been drinking, but failed to conduct a sobriety test and instead asked for the autograph. Campus officials said this didn't look right.
