Melissa Stark announced on ESPN Radio that Sean King will start for Brad Johnson who "can't throw".The other Johnson is listed as Kings backup.I had Tbay winning by 13 before this.Anyone on either side care to speculate on the ramifications of this QB change?

As a buc fan I was staying away already. Now I'm definitely staying away. King's mobility is his only strength. His hand is to small for the football. In a game the bucs need this is not good news!!!

I don't think the KING start will effect the outcome, per se.

I may be out on a limb here alone, but for the life of me, I have no idea why KING is on the bench for Tampa when he could be starting for 15 other teams. KING played well as a rookie and in my view really got shafted by being benched in favor of the two Johnsons. KING brings mobility to the Bucs, and is a serious running threat (recall his spectacular MNF game agains the Rams as a rookie a few years ago). I would have expected a sroic, unemotional game by the Bucs with Johnson starting. But now with King, Tampa could open up the offense more. I have a feeling this decision to go with King (aside from Johnson injury) is the orgnaizations way of saying, "we appreciate your loyalty, and we are going to let you go out there tonight to let people see what you can do." KING will look at this as his resume game.

If anything , this probably helps TAMPA.

There is also an angle that says BET ON a team that is without its starting QB. Players rally around the replacement and usually play better, ala Phila. This has been close to a 60 percent angle for many years.

I already have PITT +4.5. I assume the public with see King is starting and think that is a negative. I don;t see it that way at all.

Other opinions?

Nolan I agree about the emotional factor, but Brad Johnson has been one of the hottest qb's the last 5 weeks. He should be in the pro bowl. Gruden was very disappointed with King and Rob Johnson's grasp of his offense. The Bucs will be jacked up it's Monday Night and there home. The Defense who causes the most turmoil will win.

Kings a winner

Kings a winner

No question Nolan... I like this kid a lot. When he has played, he has been very smart and not at all mistake-prone like say the "other" Johnson. That is my only fear- King gets hurt and then we have to see Rob "happy feet" Johnson bury our bucs.
Nevertheless... I still feel the Tampa D takes this team on its back and Bucs win by 10.

King can play as good or better then both Johnsons. Watch the Df's pick it up another two not-ches. TBay is play.

Nolan - am not a huge Johnson fan but the guy does complete his passes and doesn't give much away. I see him as fairly crucial to the Bucs because neither Pittman nor Alstott gives them the running game that they need to churn out the downs, so Johnson is often relied upon to hit 3rd and 5s or longer and he can do it with the tall WRs. King does bring the athleticism and the unpredictability but not the consistency of Johnson, and with the Steelers D having gained in confidence after playing 2 anaemic offences - Hou and Caro. Both sets of LBs are going to go after the QB, I tend to favour the Steelers running game to give them a slight edge with McFarland out.
Agree with the trend to play on a team with a starting QB out in the right spot - maybe it fares better though then when the team have had all week to know? Then again, maybe the Bucs have known all week that King was going to start?
Line went down to 4 for a while, then back to 4.5, total dropped from 38.5 to 38, will be interesting to watch from here.

Just my 2 cents, GL all :)

I have watched every down that Shaun King has played as a buc, and to say that he can play every bit as good as Brad Johnson is just not accurate. That is as nice as I can put it. He has problems gripping the ball because his hand is to damn small. He can't throw the deep out, has know touch, and is not very accurate. He is a winner though despite all that. People tend to rally around him and make plays. The only way the bucs will benefit is with Kings ability to make plays by scrambling under pressure, and finding the recievers who don't quit on the play.

In my opinion(not that he would care) GRUDEN F.....G blew that game by not yanking King after the half. Johnson wasn't great but, he was WAY more "ON" than King was.

The thing that sucks about Rob Johnson is he has terrible footwork. He has not been able to master the three step drop, that is one of the main reasons he had dropped on the depth chart for bucs. He probably would be much better suited out of a shotgun. My bucs are in alot of trouble.. They need to win this game sunday night and need help from the jets so they can get the bye to get Brad healthy.

Agree...

Agree...

I'm with ya SmashMouth.... I just stopped throwing up last night after that Monday Night Extravaganza... What a waste... All the Tailgaiting, Drinking, Eating, everything was set up so perfect for a Monday Night Beauty... I was heading home in the 3rd Quarter.... To think, I was offered $500.00 for the pair of tickets I had Makes me want to puke again...

Shaun King is one of the nicest guys on this team... But he is not the answer in Tampa... True his mobility is substantial compared to Brad but the guy sits in the pocket and stares directly at whoever he is throwing to.... He never took his eye off Keyshawn on the intereception for the touchdown... Looks like Gruden agrees and King is heading back to the bench...
Whats really funny is people are saying Shaun is getting the shaft and he deserves a chance to prove himself again... Some of the people that call in on the talk radio shows are just idiots...
He had the whole off season and all season to prove what he can do and in Grudens eyes it wasn't enough... That is why he is the 3rd string QB... He is not ready to lead this team.... Without Brad we are in trouble... Brad is slower than molasses but his acuracy and poise is Tops... The word is out that Brad might not even be ready for the first round in the Playoffs... Without a bye week we could be in trouble.... A Jets win is crucial...
GO BUCS...
