No Bruin games until Saturday so I'm looking at this one today. Any and all info & feedback is welcome

Record vs. Hurricanes--0-0-0-1.

Update--Mathieu Schneider, sidelined for 23 games in November and December after surgery to repair a hernia and torn abdominal muscle, returns to the King lineup after sitting out two games because of a shoulder strain.

Though their 11-11-3-1 record at Staples Center is the worst home record among the 16 teams currently in playoff positions, the Kings don't seem concerned about it.

"It's not really that we're struggling at home," captain Mattias Norstrom said. " ... We're .500 at home. Sure, we want to be better. We're aware of the situation, but I don't think there's a panic about it."

The Kings play 15 of their last 28 games at Staples Center. Their 14-9-4-1 record on the road is the best in the Western Conference.

Jason Allison, hampered most of January by a sinus infection that sapped his energy, said Wednesday that he feels much better and that the virus should not affect his play if he continues taking the medicine his doctors have advised him to use for the next two months.

"The last two games before the All-Star break I started to get my energy back," he said. "I had a little more jump."

Allison leads the Kings with 38 points in 45 games, well off the pace he set last season in scoring a career-high 95 in 82 games with the Boston Bruins. Acquired in an Oct. 24 trade, he has been utilized in several line combinations as Coach Andy Murray tries to find the right chemistry.

"I think the biggest difference from previous years is that I haven't had a lot of big games," said Allison, whose recent slowdown (10 points in his last 17 games) has thrown him off the point-a-game pace he had maintained into late December. "All my years in Boston I'd go through stretches where I'd get three or four points [in some games] and maybe in a 10-game period you're getting 16, 17 points.

"Here, it's kind of like one-two, one-two. Part of that is, we've had a lot of injuries. And I don't really have a line right now. I'm playing with C.J. [Craig Johnson] and Nellie [Nelson Emerson], but some periods we only play one or two shifts together [because of penalties], then I'm with Bucky [Kelly Buchberger] and Herbie [Steve Heinze] sometimes."

GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes begin a stretch of eight consecutive games on the road and three road games in four nights as they take on the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center. The Hurricanes will not play a home game between Feb. 5 and March 8, a span of 31 days. Following Thursday?s game in Los Angeles, Carolina takes on Anaheim on Friday and San Jose on Saturday. After that, Carolina will start its Winter Olympic break before returning to practice at the RecZone on Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. The Hurricanes finish February with a road trip that takes them to Toronto, Boston, Montreal, Chicago and Pittsburgh before returning home on March 8 against Washington.

Thursday?s game against the Kings marks Carolina?s first and only United States national television appearance of the season as the game appears on espn2. The Los Angeles Kings were scheduled to play 18 games on American national television (ABC, ESPN or espn2) this season. The defending Stanely Cup Champion Avalanche were scheduled to make the most appearances with 26, followed by the St. Louis Blues (22) and the Detroit Red Wings (20).

Hurricanes center Rod Brind?Amour was ranked second in the league in faceoff percentage through games of Feb. 5 at 60.2%. Kevyn Adams was sixth at 58.0% and Ron Francis was seventh at 57.6%. The Hurricanes have played a league-high 21 overtime games this season, posting a record of 5-5-11 in those games. The NHL record for overtime games in a season is 28, set by the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers during the 1999-2000 season. The Carolina Hurricanes and the Los Angeles Kings meet for the second of two matchups this season. Carolina defeated Los Angeles 3-2 in overtime on Oct. 28 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena on a Sami Kapanen one-time slapshot at 1:33 of the extra period. Kapanen had three points (1g, 2a) in the game. The Kings swept the Hurricanes in last year?s season series, winning 6-3 in Raleigh and 4-2 in Los Angeles. Ron Francis (1g, 2a) and Sami Kapanen (0g, 3a) were Carolina?s leading scorers against Los Angeles last season. The Hurricanes are 24-26-7-0 all-time against the Kings, including a 14-11-4-0 record at home and a 10-15-3-0 record in L.A.

LOS ANGELES NOTES:
The Los Angeles Kings finished January with an 11-3-0-0 record, the first 11-win month in franchise history. The Kings began February with a loss, falling 3-1 to Philadelphia on Monday. Los Angeles has outscored opponents 61-36 in the third period this season.
