On the course!
I read a thread about USB port help you gave someone. I have a question:

Anytime I try to hook something up to my USB ports, the computer tells me there is no connection. I am a "plug it in and go" person......I don't do well with the tech aspects of things!

Is there something I am supposed to do? Is the USB port there, and just needs to be "activated"?

I have a Compaq Presario 5190 (About 7-8 years old?)

I was thinking about getting a new one anyway, but I really want to know why I can't run a printer or camera off of these front end ports?!

Thanks!

You probably need to do the "add hardware" thing from the control panel. I'm sure the USB port is already active, but your computer won't recognize the hardware until it's been officially "added". Each device needs to be installed separately, ie. the printer and camera. Once they are, they should be reconized. Different plug&unplug rules apply for USB ports/devices according to the OS, you should be familiar with those, so read your manual. But based on the model of your computer, if you have a USB port physically, it's probably installed. You can check on your Device Manager list to see if it is.
USB = universal serial bus controler. I'll check back later to see if yah got it okay.

Nothing.

I tried hooking the camera up again, and I still get the same thing:

The message on the camera says it is conected to the computer, but when I do the wizzard, it says the software doesn't recognize a conection.......

Well it seems that model does have two front access USB ports.

Check the Device Manager, you should see the ports there if they're active. Follow the instructions for installing your camera or printer. There's a specific sequence you need to follow in order for the driver to load properly.
