I know you're from the Florida area so I thought I'd ask you some advice. My wife and I are planning a early spring/summer vacation in about 2-3 months and are trying to decide between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Which one is better? The things we are looking for are probably in this order:

1. Near the beach, place to get some sun
2. Good restaurants
3. Good shopping
4. Cool bars and clubs :mj14:

Thanks buddy!!

Kneifl,

I'm partial to Fort Lauderdale and not a big fan of Miami, except for South Beach.

Just as a very quick rundown, on your list, I would go with:

1. Tie- but only South Beach in Miami, as opposed to anywhere along Fort Lauderdale beach (runs about 9 miles).

2. Fort Lauderdale

3. Miami has a great outdoor shopping/entertainment complex right next to American Airlines Arena along the bay called , well, 'Bayside'. Other than that Fort Lauderdale has a very nice mall called Galleria and you'll want to take your wife to Boca Raton (20 miles north of Fort Lauderdale) to the Town Center Mall. Very, very nice.

4. Depends. I prefer Fort Lauderdale clubs, but obviously South Beach has plenty of them. They're over the top though and very expensive. People watching is key there as every freak in florida is in attendance.

Overall, I like Fort lauderdale much better. South Beach is fun for maybe 3 nights, but don't have much use for the rest of Miami.

You can get my email from Jack for more specific info if you want.

Take care, man.

Thanks,

I think I'll go with Ft. Lauderdale. I've had some friends visit both places recently, heard good things. I was in Miami about 2 yrs ago, it was all right - sort of wild but I liked it. Been to Orlando several times, not going back there. I've never been to Ft. Lauderdale and Radana has never been to Florida period so I think that is the way to go.

Thanks again!!

I've only been down there twice. It's Little Havana (Calle de Ocho). Went to a couple different great Cuban restaurants. Sure, there are pretty Cuban women there, but I don't know if they're any better or worse or more bored than anywhere else in town, but like I said, haven't spent much time in that part of downtown.

Good to see ya posting, man.

Sounds good. I love that stuff. Don't have any Cuban restaurants here in Fort Myers, but there were several good ones in Fort Lauderdale which I went to a lot when I lived over there. Of course, nothing beats the real thing in Miami, either in the 8th st. area or elsewhere in the city.
