FSU (-3.5) over Clemson
I am going to tell you that this is a VERY tough game to call. Can clemson replace some key leaders to come out and play hard against a FSU team looking to establish themselves as one of the nations finest. FSU returns a very strong defense that played a ton of young players due to injury. Now that defense comes back very deep. The key to this team is Weatherford, can he be the QB that was recruited as one of the nations best. Personally I like Xavier Lee in this offense but Jumbo Fisher is a big move made by FSU to get the offense going. See FSU did the right thing keeping Bowden but spending the money of coaches around him leaving him as the figure head but I think the plays will be coming down from someone else. Like Joe Pa he can recruit and people around him like him so the coordinators should be a big boost for FSU this season. Clemson is VERY good, they have been a good team over the years and have been getting deeper in the talent department. The Clemson defense does have to replace Adams and Waters but they return EIGHT starters. That will help them in big games including tonight... but can they do a good job even if they are forced to play a lot every game. Davis and Spiller will keep this close but I think FSU has the talent and the questions at QB for Clemson are enough to avoid backing them. Korn should be the starter but he is a freshman and FSU will go after him.
TT (-9) over SMU
This is a straight play on offense and ability to score. SMU is an up and coming team with a good bit of talent but the Red Raiders have the ability to pass all over them. Justin Willis is a big time QB for SMU and in a shootout I like (I can't believe I am saying this) Harrell. The red raisers defense has a lot more playmakers than given credit. Garcia, McBath and Parker give the red raiders and very talented secondary. They need a bit of help on the d-line, someone to take some heat of Ratliff. The fact the defense is getting stronger and the offense has a good o-line, talent at WR and a returning QB will be too much for SMU. Worried SMU will come out big at home because the raiders have a tendancy to come out a bit flat, but I think they avoid that and get key stops on defense and pass all over the field on offense.
Cheers
