Rutgers -2.5 over Zona St **** strong play
I know the line has moved around a little..now it's up to -3.5 but I jumped on it right away..same with LSU +5..now its +4.5...
Talk about two teams that are 'mirror images" of each other. Both are known for the defense.RU held 11 of its oppenents to there lowest pt totals of the year.Make that 12 with there win over Duke.Zona St does nothing but play pressure defense throughtout the entire game. There substitution is like a "hockey line" with waves of players coming in and out. They play more then 10 girls so everyone is fresh. There plan is to wear you down with pressure defense with fresh legs and then they run motion offense. If you play man you tired of chasing them...Rutgers is a little different..Stringer runs her famos "55" press and then plays tough one on one man to man. There so athletic and quick its hard to get open shots and drive.Harding who might be named Pl of the Yr didn't get any open shots..total shut down..in Duke game..
Zona St is 26-3 and there only losses are to Stanford twice and Tenn.So there no sleeper team as many might say. Both these teams were susposed to play each other way back on the Virgin Islands but a ASU players brother died and Stringer had enough class to cancel the game.
ASU has one real scorer in Westerberg who avg 13 pts a game. They have 7 players that avg between 8 to 13.Pretty balanced scoring like to run the fast break and are very patient on offense.January there 2nd leading scorer has a head injury and she practiced yesterday..She sat out the game the other day vs B-Green.ASU beat UC-Riverside in the 1st round and struggled. Were down at the half..defense got them back in the game. Also beat Louisville and also struggled a little.
Rutgers plays only 7 players and there all young. No seniors on the team. This was a rebuilding year. They knocked off Uconn in the BE tourney. Have won 11 of 12.There defense is so good.but on offense they do have a great pt gd in Ajavon..she is solid and I think she has such a handle of the ball that it negates a little of ASU's strength..Price is the frosh with no fear..she takes it to the hoop...Carson is the BE Def Pl of the YR..she can score and just shuts down people. And Vaughn is the post who today for the 1st time has a height advantage..Ajavon only avgs 11 pts but has "led her team in scoring 5 times in the last 9 games".
Zona wears teams down...Rutgers does also but zona plays so many bodies its hard too.two things that scare me a little is RU chasing the motion offense arround ,playing offense and then pressing and playing D again. The other is they better get over beating Duke...they knocked the big favorite out...in Greenboro...
Stringer is a good coach and RU wants to go to the final 4...Think they have better offensive players..are more athletic...have Vaughn at the post...and think that the Devil press will keep off RU 's offense out of rhythm...but not enough..esp with Ajavon driving, making those layups..and falling down under the basket..she's good for 3 of those tonite.
Rutgers goes to the Final 4..wins by 6-10 pts
LSU +5 over UConn **
Huskies beat LSU at the buzzer by 1 at LSU.. there 43rd home win streak was broken..Conn has good outside shooters, solid pt gd,post player,Geno, the best freshman in the country in Charles...LSU plays tough defense..and has Fowler..thats enough to keep this close..and the game ends on a last second shot..
zoomer...think Franks is gone..across the street from Marist on Rt 9 is an Applebee's and a strip mall...
