somewhat of a 'system' play. conference tournament time allows for a lot of 'quick turnaround' games matching up teams that just played late in the regular season and now have a quick rematch in the league tourney.

for example-

hofstra/george mason played late in the regular season. then matched up in the caa tourney.

greensboro/elon played on the final day of the regular season and then right away in the southern tourney.

tonight, loyola marymount just played st.marys in their final regular season game and are now seeing them in the next game in the wcc tourney.

whatever the reason (a lot more at stake perhaps) the quick turnaround rematch is normally a lot lower scoring than the matchup from a week or so ago.

hofstra was 77-66 at the end of the regular season and then 58-49 today

elon and greensboro was 87-82 on the final day of the regular season and then 64-61 in overtime the other night

st.marys was 82-70 to close the regular season.
should be tighter tonight

certainly games are exclusive from the others but principle remains the same. defense usually tightens up.

point was that when a game goes over the total late in the regular season and then they meet right away in the conference tourney, the tempo seems to change and points are tougher to come by. the approach itself is more based on if that late reg season matchup went over.
