I still have to do my due dilligence on this game, but there is a 90% chance that I am going to be loading up on this game on Saturday.....

Can anyone explain to me how the linesmaker in their right mind can set Michigan State as a 7 point fav on the island???

Northwestern just lost outright as a 6 point fav......and Northwestern is a better football team than Michigan State.

Not to mention a different kind of athlete comes from MSU than Northwestern......a Michigan State team that I believe cannot go to a bowl game.....ya think they may go and have a good time???

I will do some heavy work on this game in this thread.....but this looks almost too good to be true....

might want to wait and see what Gman says about this game, he knows that Hawaii program pretty damn well...also, I like the chances of Hawaii beating 2 Big 10 teams on the island this year...just imagine what the public is thinking after seeing Mich St manhandle then NC contender Wisconsin a few weeks back

With Stanton at QB for the Spartans, Northwestern is definitely not a better team than Michigan State. When they are focused, Mich St can be a very good team, but they've been extremely inconsistent this season.

Totally agree with you. I'm not sure how they can spot Hawaii a TD at home. I have watched about 80% of the Warrior games here on the east coast at 12 in the morning (yes, I have a problem) but in every one of those games Hawaii shows they are a solid ball club. When they travel they forget to pack their a game. I think MSU is good and I rate them right there with N'Western with Stanton at QB, if Reeves or Dowdell plays this is a no brainer. Still MSU struggles against the spread offense - Against Ohio St, converted big game breaking plays with the passing game, so did Michigan. The secondary is weak, and no team even when they are down to MSU is out of the game for that reason. My main thought is MSU, playing basically a meaningless game across country at 12 am (to them) will come out flat.

Tease I was not questioning your knowledge on the Hawaii program at all, you have been a solid capper and im sure you know it jsut as well...what I meant was Gman usually has interesting write ups regarding the program and that could help you in capping this more...Im with you on hawaii, Chang goes out with a bang

Hoops: You say they can be a really good football team when focused.....you think they will be focused this week??? A team with nothing to play for in Hawaii.......and I am not quite sure you are giving Northwestern enough credit......at least Northwestern has heart.....maybe less in talent (maybe) but definatly more heart.

Im leaning toward Msu. I know they are a very inconsistent team, but so is hawaii. I think Chang is just a horriable QB. Msu has played harder teams. The only question is what Msu team will show up. I think Msu defense will show up and give chang trouble.

Who knows if they'll be ready to play. If they are, they've shown they are more than capable to beat good teams...destroyed Wisconsin, more than likely would have beat Michigan at Ann Arbor is Stanton didn't leave the game...

What I'm basically saying is that Michigan State's "A" game is much better than Northwestern's.

"Chang is just a terrible quaterback". Didn't he just take over as the leader in careerpassing yards for a college quaterback?? Hawaii's 'D' may be terrible but Chang can get it done my friend!

I agree. Chang SUCKS!! This guy has got to be one of the most overrated players I have ever seen. He plays against cupcakes with no defense all year long and Hawaii throws the ball 60 times a game. Anyone can get passing yards doing this. Whenever Hawaii plays a real team, Chang gets spanked. I'm not playing either side in this game, but I do think that Chang sucks.

Chang is not a horrible QB, he has been in one of the hardest offensive schemes in college and grown in it. I'm not saying he is John Elway, but he has enough to get it done. He was pulled last year in a few games, the passing record isn't impressive when you see he had about 10 more games that Detmer but still you have to have some game to do what he has done.

As for N'Western and MSU they both have talent and will be good in the future because they have young talent, but the edge goes to N'Western. Not only in record alone this year but they weren't given any credit to start the season. Yeah some great cappers in here knew some things but no one would have predicted them to do what they did.

I think the point is that N'Western was playing for a bowl birth and MSU is not. The travel is tough on these kids just the flight alone, AND then they are playing when they should be sleeping. It is a lot to overcome with nothing on the line while Hawaii is playing for a bowl birth at home and they thrive on the island.

Chang also holds the all time NCAA record for INTs and pass attempts. Sure he's got some nice stats but most of these records are a product of his system and that he's played in more games than anyone else. Not going as far as to say that Chang is horrible, but he hasn't exactly impressed me either. If you play in a system where you constantly throw the ball, and you start 13 games a year over a 4 year span you're bound to put up big numbers. Just my opinion.

As for the game I'm not leaning either way, but after seeing Michigan State chop up the Wisconsin defense I know that they are very capable of putting up huge numbers on Hawaii. Hawaii has given up some monster figures (70 to Fresno, 69 to Boise) and their opponents average over 38 a game. The question here is motivation, which is very difficult to read since we don't even know who they will start at QB this week. Over might be worth a look here just because Michigan State might let it all hang out.

Best of luck Tease, didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to weigh in since many people are giving opinions here. Tough game to cap in my opinion just because the motivation factor of Michigan State is a unknown variable.

honolulu, Hi, USA
Blackman & Irish: Both of your assessment of Chang is quite correct. He doesn't light my fire but you have to give him credit for his accomplishment. Sure, he is in a passing system that favors him but by the same token, what about the rb who gains 1,000+ yards who plays in an offense that emphasizes the rushing game?

The MSU/HI game is tough to call. Important considerations are:
1) Will MSU come to play or sip on mai tais?
2) Believe me, Hawaii will be pumped as they have a bowl game on the line. Also, it will be Senior Night and Hawaii's Senior Night is something very special. You have to be there to experience it. Trust me on this.
3) MSU should be able to run on Hawaii all night and I can't help but feel that Hawaii will only serve as a speed bump. Hawaii has to play beyond its capabilities to have a chance.
4) If and that is a big IF - Chang must have a terrific night as I don't believe MSU has faced a passing attack like Hawaii's. It is a lot different than other team's passing game and it just might pose big problems for MSU. Case in point is that NW found it quite difficult once Chang cranked it up.
5) Don't know what it is with Hawaii, but it is a very different team at home and should the crowd get into it, they will be very tough to beat. Maybe the Hawaiian Gods have something to do with it.
6) Despite all the history of the BIG 10 and its prowness, just don't take things for granted. Hawaii should rightfully be the big underdog and their season justifies its BUT The game is won on the field and not on paper or reputation. Should be a very interesting game. I only hope Hawaii comes to play or it could easily get ugly.

JMHO fellahs.

I agree with blackman's points also. Chang is nothing special but by no means is he horrible either! In a system such as Hawaii's, the QB is going to throw for alot of yards and in turn, throw alot of int's. The guy has to have some credibilty to throw for this many yards and for that many td's! Sure, he's far from a leinart or white, but he doesn't suck either!
