Quick look at Sunday's games......currently watching the Nucks/Oilers and Yotes/Hawks so I wont be touching on them til tmrw.

Buff/Philly - Flyers are really lacking on D. Small and no big physical presence. Flyers miss Briere on the PP. Not enough driving the net....something I have been accustomed to watching the Flyers. The Sabres have a really nice combination of youth and veterans to go with their skill and added toughness. Buffalo is going to be a very tough team to play against this year. Their defense is mobile and has some very nice size on the back end that has the oppositions forwards thinking about things when they cross that blueline. I am telling you, that means alot!

Pens/Rangers - Pitt has soooo much balance with their forward group. Heck Crosby has yet to score and the Pens have netted 9 so far in 2 games. Rangers are having a ton of problems in their defensive zone. Mistakes and really horrible gap control by their defense. Overall, NYR as I said yesterday.....have a target on their back and they need to pay attention to detail much better! Pens need some size though on the back end, if there is one thing they are missing is some size. Teams with big forwards will cause their D problems.

Sharks/Flames - This game went just like I thought it would. The Sharks depth up the middle was far tooooo much for Calgary while the Flames have no center ice play.....none! Stajan, Backlund, Begin and Norak.....that is what the Flames are sending over the boards to play at center. Sharks are loaded with talented vets. Guys like Havlat, Clowe and Pavelski fly under the radar when all hear about is Couture, Thornton and Marleau. Sharks defense is very balanced too.....love Dan Boyle quarterbacking things on the PP.

Wild/Stars - Man can Minny still put you to sleep when they want too. What a snoozefest of a game that was. Dallas got sucked into the Wild's gameplan and with their age they had a hard time breaking the trap. But the Stars back up goalie Nilstorp was extremely solid and that has to bode well for Dallas.

Jets/Bruins o5.5 for 1 Unit
Winnipeg is an awful road team. Last year their GF, PP and PK units were dreadful compared to that at home.

TB/NYI o5.5 for 1 Unit
I want to hit this one a little bigger but something tells me Guy Boucher has his TB squad in neutral zone trap mode as he isnt a fan of high scoring games like that of his teams opener over the Caps 6-3.

Nucks/Oilers - Vancouver certainly looked alot more settled with Luongo playing behind them.(although the 2nd goal he allowed was soft) I really thought the Nucks did a great job of forcing the young Oilers forwards to playing perimeter hockey. They are young but they are going to have to learn in a hurry to get their nose dirty, something they did little of tonight. Hemsky/Gagner/Yakupov were each a -2 and Yakupov looked incredibly lost tonight in his NHL debut. Speaking of young Oilers players, when is Pajaarvi going to be an every day NHLer, the guy was a healthy scratch yet again!

Nucks did settle down defensively, BUT again offense comes from Sedins and the D. ZERO secondary scoring.

It shows that the Sedins didnt play during the lockout. Just look at the Pens, Crosby definitely looks a step behind Malkin and Neal on his team.

Like you said, secondary scoring ends up being the achilles heel of teams when they arent winning. They need the 3rd and 4th line to grind it out for them. Oilers played a strong 3rd period, outside of that I thought Vancouver controlled the play, they had the better chances in OT too.

Sunday - 4-1 +5.95 Units
YTD 10-7 +6.65 Units

Early plays so far - 1PM EST
Back later in the day with night plays!

Jets/Bruins o5.5 for 1 Unit
TB/NYI o5.5 for 1 Unit
NYI - ML(+102) for 1 Unit

Hawks/Yotes - Personally I think you have to play the Hawks over the total all year along. Emery was dreadful in goal for Chicago, he got caught deep in his net numerous and clearly fought the puck all game long. Crawford hasnt shown he is a legit number one yet either. Hawks might need to get a solid back-up come the trade deadline. Yotes are miserable on defense.....young and no size! Forwards can drive the net with no price to pay......that will doom your goalie every game. Like I said yesterday when I played Dallas over PHX, they lost some key vets and it really shows! Hossa was a horse yet again for Chicago.....this guy is a ton to defend.

I see 6 or 7 posters on the site on TB......yikes, I am the only one. NYI are an extremely underrated team. They added some nice toughness and leadership in the off-season, not enough can be said when you add charater in the locker room and that is what they did in signing Carkner and Boulton. Putting Doug Weight behind the bench as an asst. coach was another smart move. But these young players can finally play a foot taller knowing they have guys like Carkner and Boulton ready to answer the bell!

Ottawa - ML(-140) for 2 Units
Home opener for the Sens and from all I have read online, from the players to the fans, everyone will be jacked up. It means alot when you can play on that type of adrenalin! Match up wise, the Sens 3rd line will cause either of the Panthers top 2 lines fits. Greening/Smith/Neil bring skill and toughness! They might be one of the best 3rd lines in the league. This match up alone has me on Ottawa big, I want to play them bigger but hate going higher than 3 units this early in the season, especially with the lockout shortened season. Keep in mind, Ottawa had the most players playing duirng the lockout both overseas and in the AHL!

CLB - ML(+108) for 1 Unit
Actually tempted to make this a 2 Unit play. LAL(life after Lidstrom) is miserable for Detroit. They are super young in key positions, their D was flat out awful the other night and it wont get any better. CLB has a group of players that have nothing to lose each night and will lay it on the line. They should bring great energy on homeice for their opener and with Detroit really lacking in the 2nd and 3rd defensive pairings, this will give CLB some quality scoring chances.

Ducks - ML(-115) for 2 Units
Flames are going to struggle this year, no doubt about it. I said it the other night when I bet against them and now the Ducks were sitting waiting in Calgary while the Flames played last night. Far too much depth up the middle and on D for the Ducks. Heck they looked fine without their top defensemen the other night in Cam Fowler. Flames have nothing at center and kept losing faceoffs last game, which means they were chasing the puck far too much throughout the game!!

Well the Hawks took care of their back up goalie spot in a hurry after last nights terrible start by Emery. I even wwent as far to say that the Hawks will make a move at the deadline for a back up and they did it 2 games in! Nice move, Karlsson kid is big!

A day after their amazing 6-4 win over the Phoenix Coyotes, the Chicago Blackhawks have made a trade. In a nifty little exchange, the Blackhawks get goaltender Henrik Karlsson, while the Calgary Flames get a seventh round pick in this year?s draft.

Before you start pointing fingers at Corey Crawford and Ray Emery, let?s make one thing clear: Karlsson is going directly to the Rockford IceHogs. It?s only natural, given that Carter Hutton, the IceHogs starting goalie, is bound to be suspended for his role in the bench-clearing brawl between the IceHogs and Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday. As a result, Kent Simpson was called up from the ECHL?s Toledo Walleye for the IceHogs? Monday game against the Texas Stars, leaving the Walleye without a goalie. Long story short: Karlsson was badly needed.

So, how is Karlsson? Well, he?s only played in 26 NHL games, but he?s racked up a 2.79 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. Initially undrafted, he spent two years playing in Sweden?s Elitserien before being picked up by the San Jose Sharks in 2009. The Sharks sent him back to Sweden, where he was a starting goalie, and traded him to the Flames in 2010. That fall, he won his very first start (only the third Flames goalie to do so) and played in 16 more games that season. Last season, he was passed up in favor of Leland Irving and spent the majority of his time with the Abbotsford Heat.

Blackhawks fans, calm yourselves. They?re not getting rid of Crawford or Emery. They?re only shoring up the farm team because of a huge, stupid fight. Now, let?s all go back to warming up to cheer the anthem on Tuesday.
