Just heard it on WFAN -- sure it will be on the net soon.

Have to say I'm pretty suprised, but he does look like he's having a hell of a time at there.

You got to hand to Pete Carroll. He is the best in the business. Everything he does seems right. Simply amazing. What a tough choice for Leinart! I think a lot of USC fans are anxious to see what the QBs behind Leinart can do, but not complaining about seeing Leinart for one more year! :)

I just went to Olympic to bet 5k on USC at +275 to win BCS NC and I was too late. It is now +100. :scared How can sportsbook have USC +100 to win it all. That is crazy.

Looks like I won't be betting on USC to win NC next year but you can hand USC the trophy. Only weakness will be replacing 2 DL and 2 LB but their is ton talent stepping into those 2 positions. On offense USC basically returns everybody and gets back 3 KEY STARTERS from 2 years ago that did not play this year.

If someone see's a USC futures wager +200 or better, PLEASE POST IT! I want to bet 5k on it or the max the sportsbook will allow.

scott:

dont waste your money. you can save this post, archive it, print it out and put in a folder to save and throw back in my face one year from now.

but there is no value betting southern cal to win the national title at those odds for next year.

you made a great value-based decision this year and collected nicely.

but i think youre betting with your heart now for 2006.

theres a reason these college teams dont rattle off national title after national title, no matter how good the school.

complacency.

the miami hurricanes had the same talent in the late 90s and early 2000s that usc has now, and i dont see miami rattling off national titles.

theyre gonna have another great season. but youre willing to bet almost even odds that they dont lose once? after seeing what you saw this year at times? theyre gonna be taking every teams best shot.

you know i respect the hell outta southern cal.

but the mark of a wise bettor is taking money from the man (which is what you did last year) and not giving a percentage back to him.

USC and Pete Carroll is different. Remember, this is only Carroll's 4th year at USC. He is still building USC. Next year USC will be unstoppable on offense. I will predict USC averages 40+ pts a game on offense and Leinart sits in the 4th quarter in most games.

Pete Carroll has had back to back #1 recruiting classes and I wonder how this class ends up? Prob. #1 or at least top 3. Carroll has philosophy BEST PLAYERS PLAY, PERIOD! So everyone in spring ball has to compete for their starting spot or they will lose it. That is why Carroll gets the great recrruiting classes. Look at how many frosh/soph play for USC. I think USC had over 10 freshman/sophores starting for USC in the Orange Bowl. AMAZING!

If you don't compete, you will lose your starting job to a freshman. Carroll doesn't care. So that throws out your complacency argument. You get complacent, Carroll replaces you.

Carroll as DC and Chow as OC, there is nobody better than them. They now finally get to coach an experienced team for the first time!!!!

It will be hard to replace the 2 DT's for USC and 2 LB's on defense. Other than that, EVERYBODY IS BACK!!!!! USC will be fine at LB but DT worries me.

I would lay 5k at +200 but not +100. 5k to win 5k is not worth it and you are right = no value. $hit load of value at +200 or better becaue Leinart coming back pretty much hands USC the NC.

I said year if the NCAA let Mike Williams back at USC, they would be handing USC the National Championship.

still completely disagree.

miami and southern cal are very similar.

butch davis built miami the exact same way carroll built southern cal. got loads of talent in the program. made it a juggernaut.

they both had their one year where they won the 'default national championship' (usc when they destroyed iowa 2 yrs ago and everyone said they shoulda been in the title game.....miami in 2001 when they destroyed florida in the sugar bowl and everyone said miami was the best team in college football)

then they both followed the same path next year.

both teams played the 'respect' card and got themselves a 'real' national title.

miami beat the piss out of nebraska
usc beat the piss out of oklahoma

then what? you get to the top of the mountain and youre suddenly not as hungry. teams started taking their best shot at miami and the canes still have been dominant but just dont rattle off national titles. and theres nothing wrong with that. its just the reality of college sports.

everyone was talking miami dynasty the same way theyre talking usc dynasty now.

Miami does have a lot of similarities. Especially talent wise. Maybe Miami was little more talented. The one big difference is coaching. USC has the coaching. Buch Davis left and I am not a fan of Coker. Carroll and Chow are not leaving. Chow may leave next year but Carroll repeatedly says he is here to stay. Turned down 49ers 2 times now and that was his dream job.

Maybe Carroll is waiting for LA to get an NFL team then he might leave. Other than that, he aint leaving and USC will be a dynasty. 3 years ago I said Carroll was building a dynasty and now I am saying USC will be a dynasty.

Miami beat a CRAP Nebraska team and USC did not beat a crap OU team. OU is coached by Stoops who many think is one of the best coaches in CFB.
Carroll beat OU with freshman and sophomores starting and excelling! Now Carroll in year 5 will get to coach a veteran "team" for the first time.

Only 2 worries for USC next year. Replacing 2 star DT's and 2 star LB's. Good news is nobody in CFB will stop USC's offense but defense might be a minor concern.

Since USC has philosophy best players play, period, nobody can slack off or else that 5 star recruit pete carroll recruited last year or even this year will take your job and Carroll will let them take it.

As for the big target and getting everybody's "A" game. Well that is what USC got this year after winning AP NC last year AND winning BCS OB 2 years ago. USC went the distance as the #1 team in both polls.

I honestly felt USC had decent chance to win it again if Leinart "didn't" return to USC. Now that he coming back, everybody in CFB is playing for 2nd place. People said (not necessarily you) I was blowing smoke 3 years ago touting USC and look at them now. People might be thinking I am blowing smoke again, but you shall be proven wrong again.

USC has best coaching staff in CFB and most talent. Lethal combination.

OHIO ST. VS USC IN ROSE BOWL NEXT YEAR!!!!!

That might be bigger than USC/OU this year. Classic Rose Bowl matchup in BCS NC game.

G-Man you used the word complacency and I have one more thing to say about that.

Carroll was recruiting before and after the OB, 45min after the game ended to be exact. Carroll doesn't know what the word complacency means. He wants more NC's.

What he wants & what effort players give on the field are two different things. The great teams do take missteps as it happens to the best of people.

Don't waste your money betting on USC to win it all again next year. I am not one who likes to say pass up on winning bets due to the "value" card as a winner is a winner but the line won't justify the risks that the team could slip up somewhere by a fluke & you are down good coin.

Scott don't you think Matt is making a mistake here? I mean he has a chance to go for 3 straight titles, that is great but he is putting himself at risk financially.

I can't see his stock getting any higher for the NFL draft then it is right now. Wouldn't you agree it is almost impossible? I mean the guy had a dream season. Do you know if he got some insurance policy to protect against injury for the upcoming season?

Oh & you say USC vs Ohio State? Hmm USC I can buy, Ohio State, I don't know.

Without question he'll have insurance. I knew a few guys that could've gone in the second round after their junior year if they had good workouts, but also could've dropped to the 6th or 7th round with bad workouts, so they came back as seniors. All had insurance policies, so I don't see how a top 5 pick doesn't.

Ohio State will have a squad next year. I said after the national title game that it'll be USC vs. the Michigan/OSU winner for the title.

Yawn. Scott every coach is calling kids the day of their bowl game. Mack Brown called Perrilloux at halftime of the Rose Bowl, That isnt special, thats part of the job.

Should USC win it all next year - of course. But those odds are absurd and make no "busniess sense." But, despite what I am sure we will hear, the Pac 10 will be soft again, even the good teams in Cal and ASU will slip next year, and the non-conference schedule isnt impressive. Let's see who the put in the TBA slot. No excuse not to win.

BUt, as bad as they will be, I still forecast a dreary October day with Notre Dame coming out in green jerseys causing a big stink.

Not sure about OSU, but I do think the other team will be Michigan or the Texas-Ohio State winner.

NOBODY told Matt Leinart he would be a #1, #2, or even a #3 pick. All 3 teams were either trying to find new HC's or GM's or just couldn't give a word. That played a part in Matt staying. Remember, Matt had tendonitis in his elbow and was not able to work out in offseason OR throw hard for much of the season although he had good arm strength against OU. Maybe it was because of the layoff. He will now use this offseason to increase his strength so next year he will do well/better at the combines. Right now he would do poorly at the combines and everybody here knows how much stock the NFL scouts put into the combines.

Lets take a look at the positives as some have already mentioned. USC returns EVERYBODY on offense except 1 starter. Do you believe in free agents? Well USC gets back 2 starters from 2 years ago and #1 WR from spring practice this year who all did not play this year. #1 OL Justice, #1 FB Hancock, #1 WR Lewis, all 3 did not play this year and 2/3 were starters 2 years ago. So now an experienced offense just got MORE experienced and loaded with talent. Leinart will now shine in this offense and prob. have ALL day to throw. This year he did NOT have all day to throw and he was throwing to inexperienced WR's.

Leinart has the chance to lead his team to 3 consecutive National Championships, something NO TEAM IN CFB has done since the poll era. Leinart also has a chance to win 2 Heisman Trophies! He has the chance to secure his legacy not only at USC but in all of college football. If he wins the NC this coming season, he will have only lost 1 game in his career at USC!

If Leinart suffers career injury, he already has his HUGE insurance policy. He also can get any job he wants in Los Angeles so he will be well taken care of. $$$$ wise he will be ok.

Thats what people don't understand about Leinart. $$$$$ doesn't make him happy. He is doing what makes him happy and that is staying at USC and playing for a 3rd NC. Many people need $$$$ to be happy. He doesn't. If all things go well, the NFL and the $$$ should be waiting for him at the end of the year.

People will say he can't raise his draft status even more. They are wrong. Leinart can improve himself at the combines AND if he wins a 3rd straight NC, he will be the #1 overall pick without a doubt! The guy already has received so much media love its crazy. Imagine all the media over him throughout the season next year and after USC wins their 3rd straight NC. Leianrt without a doubt will put up better #'s this upcoming season than last year. The question will be, will he get as much playing time?

If it were me, I bleed cardinal and gold but I would leave for the NFL and take my guaranteed $10 million plus money.

Funny how people bash players for leaving and some bash players for staying at the University that recruited him and getting an education. It is called LOYALTY and APPRECIATION! I have never seen a more humble superstar than Matt Leinart.

Lastly, Manning stayed for his senior season at Tenn. and I think he has done ok in the NFL. Now Leinart has accomplished hell of a lot more than Manning at the CFB level, but same things apply. Both are standup men and perfect role models.

FIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know anything about HS RB Jason Gwaltney coming to USC?

It is a fact Gwaltney verballed to Pete Carroll on his recruiting visit. It also is a fact USC coaches told him not to go public about it verbal. So under those 2 assumptions, I think Gwaltney will be coming to USC. He is getting HEAVY pressure to go to West Virginia. I think he ruled out Ohio St. or they are now distant 3rd.

If you are a Trojan fan, the guy you should pay close attention too is Patrick Turner, the BIG WR from Tenn. USC coaching staff feels he is a Mike Williams clone. Its between USC and TN and TN NEVER loses their big recruits out of TN. It is rumored he verballed to Carroll and Carroll has told him to be quiet because of all pressure to go to TN. I say its 50/50! His heart is USC (but far away) and family and pressure to stay at TN might keep him their. Plus TN is having awesome recruiting class so far.

As you can see, Carroll tells most if not all the big time out of state recruits to keep their verbal hush hush until close to signing day. He doesn't want to lose them to in state pressure.

Turner is a TROJAN! Unbelievable how Carroll can get the top WR prospect/player from the state of TN. This guy is suppose to be a clone of Mike Williams.

6.5 Dwane Jarret and 6.5 Turner along with 5 star Whitney Lewis who is 6.3 230 (fast), and 5 star Steve Smith will be USC's top WR's next year! Add 5-star WR Jackson (Army ALL STAR MVP) as well if he decides not to play MLB.

Oh yeah, I think USC returns Reggie Bush and Lendale White at RB!

You also can't forget one of if not the best TE in the country next year, DOM. BYRD!

Of course you have to mention that USC returns their whole OL next year!!!!

Last but not least, lets not forget Matt Leinart and good ol Norm Chow as OC. Def. don't want to leave them out.

IT IS NOT FAIR AND CFB SHOULD KICK PETE CARROLL OUT!

He is building more than a dynasty, he is building an NFL team! No joke!

Heard some scoop tonight that Booty has changed his mind and probably will not transfer.

I don't think there was too much stock into that rumor. Not many USC fans who are close to the program even aknowledged it. Booty would have been making HUGE mistake if he trasnfered now. He only has 2 years left after this upcoming season. He and QB Hinds gets most of work in Spring Ball to show off their talent and Booty should be the starting QB for USC in 2 years. Although USC may lose ton of talent to the NFL after next year.

Have to agree with gman on this and also in a way with scott, this will be usc'c best team in there mini run after some down years IMO very best team so far, but they will also have a big target on their back everyone even chup teams will play better against them then any other team seen it many of times in all types of college sports. could not bet them and i don't like futures anyway but would not bet against them either.

As for ML he can say what he wants about coming back to win another nc but he was not going to be a top 10 pick and he already is insured was done a few weeks ago by his family. he has a good year he will go higher the next draft, there is just to many other players who are rated out in front of him, won't be like that next year, not qb's but players teams need at that poe right now and they are going to use top pick on ol, db rb what ever the need is for that team to fill the holes. but they are loaded that is for sure.

Scott Don't count your chickens to fast on JG the miles from home is waying heavy on him and his family his brother is with wvu I still think he goes to ohio.st from listening to him talk on fox ny and yes network and long island fish wrap, we will all find out feb 2nd. if it was me it would be a very hard choice at wvu system is made for him to maybe break ncaa records, but then you have usc back to back champs i count co-champs as a championship team and they have a shot at 3, but they also have a list of backs in the older days that is just unreal not that wvu has not had 1000 yard rushers almost every year since early 70's and many have gone on to have good pro year so the kid has on hell of a choice to make, yes wvu is still hitting him hard like you said and they new about him before anyone because one of the all time running backs from wvu amos z now with the raiders tiped rich off about him as well as his coach and rich are good friend so hard choice and Like I said as a coach I had lost many kids first year in fl I would bring in from pa and boston area due to being home sick and that is lot closer then going clear to the west coast, who ever gets him will be happy if he gets his sat's up and makes the grades very low sat score retake in spring.

As for pc he is a good coach but not the greatest college fb coach or the best out here and you never said that scott so don't take it that way , IMO Norm makes the sc team go lose him and you lose a ton just IMO . pc is in te tops so far of coaches but needs to show me 3-4 more years then you can call him a great ncaa coach, and every ncaa coach in a bowl game is calling their players and even non bowl teams because you have a black out time in all sports where no contact can be made by the coach of a sport a kid can call the school but the school can't call the player and fb jan 6th to feb 1st is a black zone or called dead time. baseball has 2 dead times fb has 2 and hoops has 1. so all coaches work the phones big that last week up till the dead time, and they all call top recruits from the bowl they are in before or after least the top 5 recurits to make them feel that much special. It is all a business once player is there you don't see the same special treatment and freshmen at times have a hard time figuring that out, they are made to feel like big man at the school but once there they are still a freshman till they prove other wise, might sound harsh but part of recruting.
