White to be evaluated MondayBy Bruce Feldman
ESPN The Magazine

LOS ANGELES -- Just six days before top-ranked USC tries to beat archrival UCLA, lock up a Rose Bowl berth and get one step closer to a national championship three-peat, the Trojans got a major scare at practice Sunday.

Junior LenDale White, the thunder to Reggie Bush's lightning in USC's vaunted backfield, had to be carted off the field after an apparent left shoulder injury.

The severity of the injury at this point is unknown. Coach Pete Carroll said that White got dinged and will be evaluated Monday.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound White, who's rushed for 1,024 yards and 19 touchdowns, was shaken up in the early part of Sunday's practice. He was injured on what seemed to be a normal play; however, he pulled up, dropped the football and went down holding his shoulder.

White lay on the field for several minutes while being attended to by team trainers. He appeared to be in a lot of pain.

"They said it was a stinger, maybe a sprained shoulder," White told the Los Angeles Times. "Other than that, it's not bad.

"They said to wait until [today] and if it hurts I've got to get it checked out."

Bush -- who has already carried the ball 163 times (20 more than he did in all of 2004) and run for 1,398 yards -- said if White is unavailable, that would obviously mean he'd have to carry the ball even more against the Bruins.

"But hopefully," he added, "everything will be all right with him and that won't have to be the case."

In the Trojans' last outing, against Fresno State, Bush ran for 294 yards and had 513 all-purpose yards. He ran for 204 yards on only 15 carries last year against UCLA in a 29-24 Trojans victory.

If Scott doesn't post in the next few hours someone should check up on him, just to make sure he hasn't done anything drastic...

That could be big trouble. USC has already lost their 3rd and 4th string RB's for the season. In addition, Bush has a banged up shoulder as well. They are talking about moving a fullback to back up Reggie if White can't go.

White didn't practice today but he has bruised shoulder and will play on Saturday. Last year he didn't practice at all prior to the Orange Bowl with bum ankle and he was the best RB on the field. He plays a huge role in the USC offense. Seems like every game either White or Bush will dominate the opponent. This year USC has not used both at the same time. Maybe saving that for Texas? :help:

USC has NOBODY at RB outside of Reggie Bush
and Lendale White. USC cannot afford an injury to either Bush or White. Especially Bush.

2 RB's out before season started

C. Washington (out with grades)
H. Dennis (out with knee injury)

D. Reed got injured in ND game because fawking Weis lets the grass grow. Fawking a$$hole. Out for year with knee injury.

M. Coleman out for year with knee injury/hip.

USC lost their #3,#4,#5, and #6 RB's this year. USC doesn't have ANY RB's behind White and Bush. The replacements are the 2 FB's. I guess USC rather have it this way vs having a season ending injury to Bush or White. For most part, USC has not suffered any major injuries on offense. Defense is another story! :scared

looks like these 2 are out for UCLA game, Scott?

11/28 4:35am LB Thomas Williams Knee downgraded to expected to miss.
11/28 4:35am LB Keith Rivers Hamstring is doubtful.

is that a concern for the defense this weekend? i think they were out for the Fresno game, which definitely helps explain why Fresno offense was so successful????

i still think usc wins this by at least 2 td's...if not 3 or 4....

YES they both were out against FSU. Rivers started but was hurt in 1q. Williams will not play against UCLA and he is USC #1 backup LB. Rivers is starting LB and is doubtful for Sat. Both will be healthy in the BCS NC game. The starting MLB LUA played hurt in FSU game and will play/start hurt again vs UCLA. He will be 100% healthy for BCS NC game. USC starting DE Rucker is also hurt but will start vs UCLA. Bruised shoulder. It goes on and on. Horrible year injury wise for USC D.

Carroll said he isn't worried at all about the USC defense. In his press conferrence Carroll brought up excellent pts. He gave ton of credit to FSU coaching staff and said they are very good team. Which they are. 2nd, Carroll said FSU offense ran the ball well few times on a drive but that was it. Then FSU would have some success with intermediate passing game, then that was it. Then FSU would have success dumping pass to RB, then that was it. Then Carroll pointed out USC D started the 3q really well and in the 2h special teams killed USC. FSU had 2 TD's scored from USC 28 and USC 15. Not the USC defense fault. Carroll said be blames himself for not adjusting fast enough.

If you look at things closer, USC D wasn't NEARLY as bad as people made it out to be against a VERY GOOD Fresno St. squad who played really well that night. Don't forget, USC is also very banged up on D.

Something Carroll didn't mention was USC D forcing Fresno St. offense to fumble 3 times in the 1h and FSU recovering all 3 fumbles back. USC D excels at forcing teams to turn the ball over and FSU got lucky in 1h. But their luck ran out as they turned it over often in 2h.

Ive counted more times than 3 that SC has gotten a very lucky break with a loose football. In fact if it wasn't for a very lame jump by Leinhart, and a bad break out of bounds ND would have won and we wouldn't even be talking about SC.
