Everyone has an excuse, nobody takes responsibility for their own actions, it is always because of someone else or whatever. I don't care about the excuses, you did it. I hope they kick all these guys out that knew about it. Covering this sort crap is just wrong, plain and simple, they are as guilty as the person doing it. Did they ever consider the girl? What they were allowing to happen to her? Round em up and kick them all out.

I'VE READ many many Republicans knew since this spring. I didn't go back and look, but I remember Republicans from Ohio Louisiana New York and the speaker definitely mentioned.

Freeze, amazing, I'm proud of your honesty.

On a separate note, I lived in the county where father Porter (one of the original Catholic predators) hailed. I know of some kids he molested, without question they became fuxed up kids. You guys all know the type, high school broke drug addicted loners, really sad. But of course this doesn't usually produce molesting tendencies.

Even hard core prison inmates despise pedophile, usually because these prisoners were usually abused themselves, that's why they beat them in prison. A Catholic priest animal was murdered here in Massachusetts couple years back.

at first I was inclined to give Hastert a pass....BUT....

i think that Hastert should immediately not only resign as Speaker but from the House as well

To put a guy like this creep in the position he was in with ANY sign that he could/may be a freak is INEXCUSABLE and is frankly HORRID LEADERSHIP and as one of the top 5 much less 500 leaders in this country he DOES NOT fit the bill

The Republicans are turning into an embarassment

Where there was smoke, there was fire and many of these bums did nothing about it but promote this jackoff

And to think he is now checking himself into rehab for alcohol:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

Can it get any more insulting????

He is now making a mockery of alcoholism:nono: :nono: :nono:

Is it possible you are waking up?

You could see the hand writing on the wall when. Three reb's get together to discuss what and how to take care of Foley 6 months back. But don't invite or tell the only Democrat on their committee to show up. This is easy one to call.

Pondered that point also DJV--valid observation.
Definately has earmarks of coverup--
Would appear to me without knowing all the facts that they were privvy to info on Foley but thought they could warning would be sufficient to have him stop but were wrong.
IS almost assickening to listen to all excuses Foley is trying come up then his actual deeds.

This will be a black eye and sway conservative voters at the polls.

Unfortunately there appears to be double standard with Dems and history shows moral ethics has 0 effect on their members--

"Despite this, the immediate take by Democrats and much of the mainstream media was that this was a classic example of Republican hypocrisy --

If anything, the episode reveals the Democrats' hypocrisy about their own behavior. The fact that Foley resigned virtually within minutes of being told that ABC News had copies of his salacious e-mails and text messages indicates he at least felt shame for his actions. Can the same be said for Democrats?

Sadly, it doesn't seem so. How else can you explain the following?

In 1983, then-Democratic Rep. Gerry Studds of Massachusetts was caught in a similar situation. In his case, Studds had sex with a male teenage page -- something Foley hasn't been charged with.

Did Studds express contrition? Resign? Quite the contrary. He rejected Congress' censure of him and continued to represent his district until his retirement in 1996.

In 1989, Rep. Barney Frank (news, bio, voting record), also of Massachusetts, admitted he'd lived with Steve Gobie, a male prostitute who ran a gay sex-for-hire ring out of Frank's apartment. Frank, it was later discovered, used his position to fix 33 parking tickets for Gobie.

What happened to Frank? The House voted 408-18 to reprimand him -- a slap on the wrist. Today he's an honored Democratic member of Congress, much in demand as a speaker and "conscience of the party."

In 2001, President Clinton, who had his own intern problem, commuted the prison sentence of Illinois Rep. Mel Reynolds, who had sex with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer and pressured her to lie about it. (Reynolds also was convicted of campaign spending violations.)

You get the idea. Democrats not only seem OK with the kind of behavior for which Foley is charged, but also they protect and excuse it. Only when it's a Republican do they proclaim themselves shocked -- shocked! -- when it comes to light.

We have a lot more questions about this whole affair. The timing of the revelations, as we noted, couldn't be more propitious for the Democrats. Turns out both the Democrats and several newspapers seem to have known about Foley's problem as far back as November, according to research by several enterprising blogs.

Why didn't they come forward then? Who dredged up these e-mails -- and why did they hold them until now? This reeks of political trickery.

We're glad Foley's gone. He betrayed Congress, his party and the trust of the 33 pages who serve in Congress, and their parents. He behaved immorally, and we won't be surprised at new revelations.

That said, if this scandal is the Democrats' answer to their problems at the polls, it's pretty pathetic. It shows a base contempt for the voters."

I guess I'm not sure what 8 or 20 years has to do with anything. Things have away of playing out. This to will gets it's chance to play out to a final resolution. As for polls. Not sure where polls are hurting them. Seems most are in there favor. I see two polls just out today show Bush back under 40%. Even with his constant T V appearance's of pushing his war in Iraq. As for Foley I think you know if Reb's want a chance to hold congress. The Speaker needs to go. I do believe Americans have away of taking things In to there hands at the voteing booth. Like I believe in 85 or 86 and 94.

We already discussed the Democrat scandal timeline, DTB. Thanks for bringing your typical spin anyway, I guess.

Never thought I'd say this - but can you please learn from Dr. Freeze's example?

I know some will only see this as a "us vs. them" sort of thing and I already understand the pot calling the kettle black opinion as far as moralist and conservative as stated in the first post, but I hope we all realize that this sort of things is not unique to any one group but is prevelent in all groups or subsections of people, however you want to group people. I'm certain there are republicans and democrats and independents and so on who may have done things similar to this and other terible things.
