Had a spare minute to capp some games and came up with u 196 in the Nets/Celts game tonight.

Here's why:

-Since Todd MacCullough left the Nets lineup on Feb. 24.....the Nets have been struggling in the middle offensively.

-In their last 9 they have scored about 7' points below their seasonal average of 96' when Mac was filling up the paint.

95
85
102
92
92
87
73
90
86
89 = 89 pt/gm ave for the last 9

-The Nets have been better than their seasonal average defensively.

84
96
82
89
101
84 = 89 pt/gm ave for the last 6 (only 2 were at home)

-The Nets seasonal average of points allowed is 92. So they are allowing 3 less per game over the last 6 games.

-On the other hand the Celts have been been on a scoring terror in their last 5.

104 Wiz
98 Wiz
117 Pistons
130 the defensively inept Magic
100 76'ers
= 110 pt/gm ave in the last 5

-In their last 9 the Celts have averaged 101 which is 4' above their seasonal average of 96'.

-Personally....I believe the Nets are currently a better team defensively than the 4 that the Celts have recently played.

-The Celts have been giving up about 2' more points per game over their last 6 than their seasonal average of 95 pt/gm.

99 Wiz
91 Wiz
92 Det
110 Orl
94 Philly
100 Char
=97' pt/gm ave.....but all these team are better offensively than this Nets team without Mac

-To illustrate the poor Nets offense......look no further than last night:

Van Horn...3-10...8 pts

Kidd...3-18...7 pts

Kittles...3-10...8 pts

-So.....what will it be.....the poor Nets offense driving the total under or the "higher" scoring Celts pushing this one over the 196 total???

My instincts say the Nets are as bad offensively as their recent play without Mac indicates....and....on the other hand I don't believe the Celts are as good offensively as the last 5 games might suggest.

Therefore, I like the u 196 in the Nets/Celts tonight!

damn nice write-up ez....but I have to disagree with you on this total....after a poor shooting performance the night before teams usually come out a little bit more focused on the offensive end....if for anything else a little pride....you're correct that not having todd in the middle has hurt the nets....but in my eyes it's been more on the defensive end then offensive....sure he can score some points....but he is not an offensive threat like a van horn or kittles is for that team....I look for the nets to put up at least 95 points tonight with the celtics getting over 100....I think the celtics have finally decided that they are a good team....they are playing really good ball right now and the trade for rogers has put that third scorer in the lineup that they desperately needed....I think the celts will try and make a statement against the nets tonight with a big offensive night....you maybe right on this....it definitely wouldn't be the first time.... :D

Roger......great points in your reply!

Roger......great points in your reply!

My thoughts are that MacCullough keeps Nets' opponents honest on defense because they have to collapse into the paint more........which opens things up for the preimeter shooters like Van Horn, Kidd, Kittles and even Martin from time to time.

Roger.....you do make valid points. Those points along with Valuist's concerns about who's blow'n the whistles in tonight's Nets/Celts game has me in a bit of a holding pattern.

I am trying to find out the refs prior to the game and if excessive whistles seem likely......then I would have to say your call on the over is likely the better play at that point.

Thanks for the input and capp'n thoughts.
Hopefully I'll be back with ref info ASAP! GL ez

Here they are and they are "WINDY" on the whistles!!!

Refs for tonight's Nets/Celts game:

the one thing I hate the most is talking someone out of a play...sorry about that ez...your write-ups are always solid and usually very accurate...your record speaks for itself...I just saw something in this matchup that I wanted you to see...but you're right about the nets...they are having serious offensive problems right now...kittles and van horn have to score 20 or more a night for this team to win...martin is a great talent and will be a superstar in the years to come but his offensive game needs a lot of work...and jefferson has to score in double digits coming off the bench for this team to be successful...tonight they shot just 41% and missed 11 out of 16 3pters...terrible...the celtics shot just as bad...but made and put up more three's which won the game for them...pierce and walker won the game for them...anderson, delk, vitaly, rogers, & strickland had 23 pts...combined....that's pathetic...on any other night they would have lost...but anyways ez...you keep cappin' the way you do...I promise you I won't be on the oppisite end of your next write-up! ;)

take care buddy!

Hey Roger........no problem and I still appreciate your feedback.

Hey Roger........no problem and I still appreciate your feedback.

That's why we post plays and thoughts here......so differing viewpoints can be explored.

I really thought the officiating crew working last night would have impacted the game more than they did. Seemed like they "swallowed" their whistles last night.

Several fouls they did call in 1H were offensive and actually work against the over by taking away a couple of Collin's buckets! :(

Normally these guys would have addded another 10+ points with enough foul calls to get both teams over the limit early each quater.

Another unfortunate circumstance was the fact that both teams seemed to set their starters a LONG....LONG time at the begining of the 2nd quarter. Scoring really tapered off for about the first 6 minutes of that quarter.

Because the refs were a nonfactor last night and with the facts you recapped in your comments......the over never really had a chance after the 1st quarter.

We'll get 'em next time Roger...take care! ez
