Just got in TP...that number was just kinda off the head but feel it should be fairly close...but don't really have any idea how the 2 teams are supposed to be this year in terms of what they have returning & etc. I think I'll just use last years stuff & see if I can come up with a possible score...but I'll leave out the bowl games.

Tech has a couple of OL to replace, and a couple of LBs. Taylor can present big problems as a dual threat. Bama has ? at OL, QB and DB.

It would seem tough to pass up VT+ anything, no?

Would have to agree Cie...both clubs play good D...and offensives may have trouble scoring...could be a low scoring tight game within 4?...justing waiting for the mags to come out so can check into it further...Over the years I slowly turned primarily into a dog vs a fav player...so any line under 10 is going to get my attention.

No doubt there is much work to be done. sir.

At the end of last season, I was thinking that I may not wager, much less post, on college football this year. Maybe I was worn down from my first losing campaign in several seasons, but it also takes up a little too much of my time. Especially since my kids are now 2 and 3 1/2, with my oldest playing TBall now, and Soccer in the fall. It all made perfect sense at the time:shrug:

4 months removed, and I'm pleading temporary insanity. I'm ready for some football, not to mention saturdays in Baton Rouge:toast:

Know where your coming from Cie...When my time comes 'to go' it will probably while I'm capping or watching a game. And fwiw, I would much rather be backing or following someone that didn't have as good as year as they would have liked instead of someone that had a good year. Motivation can work for them & us. Personally, I've never been 'more ready' for a season...my main problem will be trying to maintain some emotional balance.

Ok every year I look at the next year schudle and while football is fresh on my mind i make the lines for ALABAMA and AUBURN here they are......

V Tech +3.5
Fl int +21
N texas +28
arkansas +7.5
Kentucky +4
Ole miss +2
S car +7
tennessee +7
Lsu +2
miss st +9
tenn chat +27
Auburn +4
If they make championship whom i think will be FL they will be Dog for first time.......
Fl -6

I have done this for 5 years and if my line is off from the Vegas line I always bet toward my line and Have won around 75 percent....

Auburn

w vir +1
misst st +2.5
kentucky +2
ball st +6
tenn -2.5
ark -2.5
southen miss +3
LSU -8
ole miss -3.5
Ferman no line
Georgia -9
alabama -4

THIS YEAR will be harder than the past due to inconsistance at Suburn with new QB and Coaches.... and the new QB at AL ( al with the nubmer 1 rated defense in teh country along with 4 first round NFL draft picks will be favored alot) Think Au suprises some teams and had an average year.....Believe Alabama's defense keeps every game close to the end....Take alot of unders on BAMA....Offense will struggle

I am of the other opinion in a big way. I think Virginia Tech defense will dominate an inexperienced OL and QB. I think they will also score some points with their experienced ol and skilled players.

In my opinion, Alabama could easy reverse roles with the team that they sent into a tail spin last year, Clemson. I see VT winning somthing like 24-6.

I also see Alabama losing several games in the SEC with said OL. The OL must work as one and that takes time. Alabama will be good in future years, but I look for them to lose 4 or 5 games this year.

You cannot in clear reason expect a team to simply plug in three guys in the place of one all-american and two all sec performers at a position that requires knowing what the others on that unit are going to do like they know their own brother. It just does not happen immediately, probable a season, no matter how individually talented they may be.

Working as one is so underrated on the OL. Very few people give it the thought that it merits.

Also, as far as the opening line goes, there is no way Alaama opens as a big favorite...The current Moneylines to win the BCS are...
Virginia Tech +1500
Alabama +2000

The wise guys will open it roughly at Virginia tech -1.5 or 2 and the public will move it to around a push, most likely...

I don't see the Hokies rolling over against Bama like Clemson did in last season's opener.

Alabama must fill vacancies at QB & RB.

VT has not played well in big games against Top 10 teams the last several years. Can't pick them outright here in a neutral site game (Atlanta).

17-13 Tide

Some real good points guys...sure helps to hear other opinions. The margin/score I came up with was based totally on last yrs games...and as some pointed out don't think Bama's offensive will be as good as last year...at least earlier in the season. As far as what the line would open I based that probably more on how the OM would look at the game and not necessarily what it should be. Tech's got a reputation themselves, but Bama's is still huge & unfortunately Bama backers are gonna have to pay for that a lot of the time. So when the line does come out...there probably won't be any value for Tide backers.

I respect your opinion, but again I must emphasize the importance of replacing the three very talented Offensive linemen. More importantly, they had been together a few years and knew without a doubt that if one was supposed to pull or be in a certain spot that he would be. This is the problem I see for Alabama, unity in the offensive line that takes time.

You state that they must replace the QB and RB which is true (although Alabama is still loaded at RB with potnetial studs coming in along with Ingram), but you do not mention the biggest factor to Alabama this year, OL. This will be a problem the first year as these guys learn each other.

Virginia Tech returns 17 starters themselves, with a defense on the same level with Alabama, just as good skill players and equal special teams at worst, with somthing Alabama does not have, A very experienced and solid Ol. Your score may be on, but I do not see Bama scoring on Virginia Tech and I do see Virginia Tech scoring at least a few times on Bama, just my opinion.

Best of luck...

definitely agree with this tdp....imo line play on both sides of the ball is probably the most important aspect in capping football...ie...giants vs. the pats in the superbowl a few years ago....

i don't even start looking at the games yet until i read some pre-season magazines....

great talking football guys....

"You cannot in clear reason expect a team to simply plug in three guys in the place of one all-american and two all sec performers at a position that requires knowing what the others on that unit are going to do like they know their own brother"

Nick sabin.... And maybe FL will be the only team to score that many points against this D fense. Hey I am a tiger but hate to admit this same defenive team from last year with new 5 star back ups (Brandon moore, DJ fluker (they say number 1 pick in NFL as a Junior, better than Andre at this point), Barret Jones and Tyler Love) they would start and dominate at any school, might come out rusty though, they will win the V tech game....

When is the last time other than G tech has a ACC team beat a good SEC team they are out of their league....
Gald to get everyone fired up FOOTball right around the courner....

AGREE with money pants. I know the Alabama team from top to bottom its my money maker....
THEY might not be favored but they will WIN...
AGAIN 4-5 top 32 players in America are on BAMA defense with the Defensive genus............
Not even counting the 2 years in a row of number 1 recruiting classes............
Only question is QB, think Sabin gets his title next year..........
