Absolutely sucks. Everything seemed to be going perfectly, pitching great, then, bam. The radio broadcast team has said nothing about what is wrong, they are not speculating at this point. Maybe you are watching it on tv and could see something from that?
Definitely a blow to the Twins...things are going so well, and seemingly F-Bomb was back to help the rest of the way.

I doubt he will be throwing anything for a long time...they are going to be over-the-top cautious with this one. I just don't know if he will ever be "right", considering his motion and the stress he puts on that arm. What a shame...the thought of how this team was shaping up (still is, but...) with him, Santana, Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Nathan, etc...and the new stadium on the horizon? Damn.
the twinkies are in a ton of trouble. they are a relatively small market salary cap wise. their year to win is now. contract wise this team is a mess. half their teams contracts are over at the end of this season, and ownership won't be able to sign half of what these guys are going to want.
contracts up after this season:
Liriano: makes $327,000 this year. somehow, i think this guy will want a little more.
Matt Garza: makes league minimum.
Boof Bonser: makes league minimum.
Justin Morneau: makes $345,000 this year. this guy will want the bank.
Lew Ford: makes $425,000.
Joe Mauer: makes $400,000.
Nick Punto: makes $690,000.
Michael Cuddyer: makes $1,300,000.
Carlos Silva: makes $4,000,000.
Louis Castilla: makes $5,750,000.
Shannon Stewart: makes $6,000,000.
Brad Radke: makes $9,000,000.
Torii Hunter: makes $8,000,000. Does have an option for 2007 at 12,000,000.
good luck having management renogotiate contracts with all these guys who will all want raises. Great story this year, but unless ownership really opens the wallets which is doubtful, they will look real different in 2007.

Fair points, but much of the mentioned money will not be an issue, one way or the other. Liriano will probably be in no position to command big money until he shows he is healthy and can throw successfully again. If he can, he will probably be unaffordable in the long run, but they can probably sign him up for a fair price for 3/4 years like they did with Santana. Radke will not be back, he will retire most likely, and will not command anywhere near that money otherwise. Stewart will not be back. If it comes down to future money concerns, either next year or beyond, Hunter will not be picked up, IMO. No way they risk Mauer (who is local and I'm sure wants to stay if possible - has intimated that already) or Morneau for Hunter. Lew Ford is a non-issue, he should not be on the team moving forward. Punto won't command a terribly high salary, nor will the young pitchers who haven't proven much yet. Silva is arguable moving forward...a lot of questions about his intestinal fortitude and the young guys are doing well. Cuddy should command a decent raise.
I would think that the approval of the new ballpark will bode well for a somewhat increased payroll, considering the fans are really coming out to support these kids now, and Terry Ryan is a master of maintaining a roster on a budget.
There will be some tough decisions to make, but much of it is cut and dried, and the really big money guys will probably not be an issue next year.

certainly don't know the twinkies as well as you do, but i like their story and aside from the dodgers, like mostly small market teams. yankees annoy me to no end, but i guess you get what you pay for.
i think you're wrong about liirano. he will ask for a ton of money and if the twinkies won't pay it, he will end up in pinstripes i'm sure. mauer is gonna want 5 mil a year. i think you are right that radke is probably done and lew ford and punto should be after thoughts. i also think hunter won't have his option picked up. i personally think he's going to be in your division next year on the south side of chicago, but thats just random speculation.

I think you are spot on in some of your thoughts, BDB. Mauer will be the guy that they will open the bank for, if necessary, and rightly so. Hard to tell what will happen with Liriano until the arm stuff is figured out. No doubt the Yankees can offer him whatever they want if they want, but Pavano comes to mind as a reason to be a little cautious about big money for injured pitchers in the next year.
The nagging concern I have with the future of the Twins is that I expect Morneau and Santana to look elsewhere when they get a chance. Santana has already left the door open in one interview I've heard, saying all the right things that come from an agent, being uncommittal about the future, etc. And Morneau was really hurt by the fans, coaches and media here last season, and I don't think he will forget that. He is kind of a different sort, and feelings are a part of his makeup. For a left-handed hitter who is putting up the numbers he is right now...that is going to be a huge contract coming up. How good would he look aiming at the Yankee RF porch?
I was disappointed that the Twins didn't go out and get a decent starting pitcher before the deadline - when they went out and got Phil Nevin. I thought they needed an innings-eater much more than they needed another option at the plate that cannot field. How good would somebody like John Lieber (who was available) look right about now?
Maybe they will continue the magic the rest of the way. I have to think that even without F-Bomb, they have a great shot at making the playoffs. Don't see much more than that with the starting pitching they have now, though.
