Not a big fan of either coach, but I don't agree with Carr's comment that Tressel's not voting in the USA Today Coach's poll may have played a roll in Michigan not getting in the championship game.

Florida had 1470 total points in the final poll: which means 44 voters (24 pts per vote) voted Florida 2nd, and 18 voters (23 pts per vote) voted Michigan 3rd.

Michigan had 18 voters putting them 2nd, and 44 voters putting them 3rd, for a total of 1,444 total points.

Even if Tressel would have voted, and if he put Michigan 2nd and Florida 3rd, the totals would have been:

Florida: 1493
Michigan: 1468

So, instead of being 26 pts behind, they would have been 25 pts behind. No difference.

All the voters agreed that FL and MI were in spots 2 and 3 - nobody else snuck into those spots on any of the coaches ballots.

Lloyd may have a bone to pick with Urban Meyer with the "campaigning" comment he made... or maybe Lloyd should have done some of that himself.....that one doesn't bother me as much - it's a free country, Meyer (or anyone else) can say what they want.

But, for God sakes Lloyd, leave Tressell alone! The inference that Tressell's non voting somehow cost Michigan a shot is bunk! Even if Tressel voted Michigan #2 and did not even put Florida in the top 25, they STILL wouldn't have enough votes to overtake Florida, the way the voting panned out.

Mags, I agree with you.

Further, I think the coach's poll is a joke. Based on listening to Tressel and Mayer last night on the BCS show, I wouldn't let them vote at all. They're both intelligent football guys, but both said they hadn't really seen the other team play, except for one game at the end of the year. I admire Tressel for not voting. I'm sure he knows Mich inside and out, but Florida....

A good major college HC knows the teams in his conference, and maybe one outside rival. Not other teams. The coach's poll would be good if all coachs saw more games, because they know football. But they don't see enough of teams outside their conference to make an informed judgement.

Lloyd Carr is a bitter old man. He is tired of a man half his size kicking his a$$ 5 out of the last 6 years...so he'll take any shot he can at Tressel, and OSU for that matter. He's pissed at the world, and probably a little jealous, wishing the shoe was on the other foot. It will be a test of his abilities to see if can get UM ready for the Rose Bowl. ;)

Lloyd did make a good point, that I would have to agree with, when interviewed by Chris Fowler. He said that all coaches, being that they are coaches, have an obligation to vote in the coaches poll. In my opinion Tressel is a chicken****. He obviously doesn't have the cahones to make a decision and defend that decision. I don't really care who plays in the NC game but I'm glad I don't have to hear Meyer, with his pom pons, cheerleading for his team every week anymore.
